The Minges Makos is a summer swim club for novice and experienced swimmers ages 5-18. The team is part of the Greenville Area Summer Swim League.

History:  Following the 2014 season, many teams that were once open to all non-pool members changed course and the once plethora of teams open to the public was lowered to only one team that was already at capacity.  The Makso swim team was thus created in 2015 to fill this void and give Greenville area youth an opportunity to join a team with afternoon practice options and no membership requirements.

For most of its existance the Makos Swim Team has averaged only 35 swimmers.  Many of these swimmers have moved on to swim with the year round team East Carolina Aquatics and shown tremedous growth over the years.

The team is currently at its hight boasting 55 swimmers in the 2024 season and coming away with its first championship in its 10th season.

Our Instructors:

• All Makos instructors are USA Swimming certified coaches with full multi-layered background checks
• Head Makos instructors were/are national-level swimmers who understand the sport of swimming

What We Teach:

• Fundamentals of swimming for all four stroke
• Racing strategies in a fun, low-pressure environment
• Instructors follow drill guidelines established and practiced by the East Carolina Aquatics – The Gators!

• General Practice Schedule:
  • June 2nd - July 27th: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays - 7:00-7:45 p.m.
    • ​Practices June 3rd - June 9th may be altered slightly.
  • Times may change slightly based on the number of swimmers on the team.
• Competitions: 1 local competition per week, held on Tuesday nights, plus end-of-season championship meet.
• Fee Structure:
  • ECA Non-members - $99
  • ECA Members:  Meets Only - $10
    • Must be swimming with current ECA group for June and July to be eligible for this rate.  Discount will be reversed if swimmers suspend during these months
    • ECA Members wishing to practice with both groups will cost an additional $40 for the summer.  We are doing this so that we have enought coaches to cover our practices.

  • ​​The league utilizes Swimmingly for swim meet. Each swimmer will need to register for swimmingly. The fee is $18 per swimmer.

Requirements

Swimmers need to be able to show that they can swim 25 yards continuously unassisted.  

Parents will need to volunteer at a minimum of 2 meets.  We cannot run meets without everyone's help!

Swimmers will need a suit and goggles.
