Swim Paddles for LGSC Swimmers

Richard Taylor

Swim paddles are an important part of swim practice for nearly all competitive swimmers. Only the most beginning level swimmers (Green Group) need not use them, but that changes later. Bronze Group swimmers should use paddles, but that is merely suggested. Swimmers in the Silver, Gold and Platinum Groups should absolutely use swim paddles.

Swim paddles accomplish 2 things. They improve technique considerably, and, when used judiciously, they also help to strengthen the shoulder, potentially reducing the chances of future shoulder ailments, which can occur in our sport. For those reasons, swim paddles are an important part of swim practice.

All sorts of different paddles exist in the marketplace. If a swimmer already has a pair, they actually fit, and they are ready to use, bring them to practice. But, as with many of our swimmers on LGSC, swim paddles are missing. Coach Taylor would like to reccommend a pair for purchase. It is the Sporti Power Paddles (pictured here). This paddle is inexpensive and durable, having withstood the test of time for years. This paddle can be ordered from swimoutlet.com for around $10. Nice price!

The Sporti Power Paddle comes in 3 sizes. Small is for young swimmers with small hands. Medium is for male swimmers who have not reached adolescence, as well as for most female swimmers. The Large paddles are good-sized, for big boys and girls - you know who you are.

See you all at the pool Go LGSC!
