We had a good first week back to school.
History- the 1950’s culture, government and politics, inventions, and games that were popular.
Lit - began reading Frankenstein. Have the 4 letters read for Monday.
Math - reviewed basic math concepts, played Roman Numeral Bingo.
Chemistry - defined matter, started work on measurement and metric system.
Grammar- direct and indirect objects. Complete do and io paragraph for Monday.
Creative writing- vacation in the 1950’s paper due 8/24.
My Frankenstein book does not have letter 3 so I assume yours doesn’t either. Read 4 & 5. Tx
This week, we finished our look at the 1950’s with the music, Korean war, the Cold war, and movies.
Lit - we read the rest of the letters in Frankenstein and chapters 1-2. Tread chaps 3&4 for Monday.
Math - we are still reviewing positive and negative numbers.
Chemistry - we are discussing English and metric measurement.
Grammar - we have looked at noun clauses and their functions. Finish ex. A for Monday.
Creative Writing - we wrote descriptive paragraphs and read out essays about vacations in the 1950s.

Monday We went over Noun Clauses, Significant figures and important moral things happening history of the 60’s through songs.  
HOMEWORK, due Wednesday : 
try a few of these figures and find how many significant figures are in each number : 3.0101   and 0.1020 and 01.3450
Creative Writing : Finish these sentences with Metaphors, you can show them in art work, songs, poetry or by completing the sentence with your words.  Bonus points if the song /art work is your own.  
Metaphore : a comparison of two unlike things "the lietenant barked commands"  comparing the lietenant to a dog. 
            A sister is.....        The problem is.....    Holidays can be...... Her nasty words were..... The singers were.....

First of all, thank you all for your patience when I had to be out of pocket due to a death in my family.
This week in history- we finished up the 1960s by taking a listen to the music of The Mamas and the Papas, Bob Dylan, and the Beatles. We also learned about Viet Nam and the Bay of Pigs.
Literature -  We have completed the first 10 chapters of Frankenstein.
Chemistry - has been more like a second math class as we have explored measurement from English to metric to converting fahrenheit to Celsius.
Grammar - we have worked on pronouns and their anti effects.
Creative Writing - the big assignment was to pick a broad topic and research how it changed through the decade of the 60s.
9/11 lit. - read chapters 13 & 14 for Wednesday
Math - multiplication of positive times negative numbers.
Chemistry - reviewed changing fahrenheit to Celsius and Celsius to fahrenheit. We also looked at changing Celsius to kelvin
Grammar - recognizing adjectives
Creative Writing - creating characters.
9/13 read chaps 13 and 14 Frankenstein, grammar do the last 5 sentences, creative Writing, begin 3 paragraph on integrity.
9/14 lit. - read chapters 15 & 16 in Frankenstein
Math - multiplication of positives and negatives within the same equation.
Chemistry- began looking at the Periodic Table of the Elements and their symbols
Grammar - nouns and pronouns used as adjectives
Creative Writing - no new homework
9/18 History- we looked at fads of the 79s and
made pet rocks.
Lit - read chapters 19 & 20 in Frankenstein for Wednesday
Math worked on graphing equations
Chemistry - took a closer look at the Periodic table. Completed the symbols page and will finish the numbers page Wednesday.
Grammar- using adjective clauses
9/20 History. - we made out own Ambrosia Salad using pineapple, mandarin oranges, marshmallows, pecans, and whipped cream. Ambrosia was a popular "celebration food" of the 1970s.
Lit.- Went over chapters 19 and 20 in Frankenstein. Read chapters 21 and 22 for Thursday.
9/21 history- listened to 1970s music while played Scrabble.
Lit - discussed chapters 21 & 22. Finish reading the book for Monday.
Math - started balancing equations.
Chemistry - Laws of proportion, mass proportion,  and Dalton’s Atomic Theory.
Grammar - Finish the homework pages about
adjectives.
Creative Writing - this will be due after fall break. The theme is honesty. You can do an essay, poem, write a play, just let your creative juices flow !
9/25 Lit- we finished the book Frankenstein and will watch the 1935 Frankenstein movie Wednesday and Thursday
History - we started the 1980’s by taking a look at the culture
Math- we continued practicing solving equations with variables.
Chemistry- continuing our study of atoms, elements, molecules, and compounds. Today we focused on counting the atoms in compounds.
Grammar- continuing studying the correct degrees of adjectives.
9/28 Lit - we finished the movie Frankenstein and had a good discussion about book vs movie.
History - we learned about Ronald Reagan and made our version of potato skins which were a popular snack in the 80’s.
Math - continuing balancing equations. The students are working hard on this and I’m very proud of them!
Chemistry - continuing learning about chemical formulas and how to name them.
Grammar - finished our study of adjectives.
Creative Writing - remember your project about honesty is due the Monday after fall break.
10/9 We are still in the 1980s and listened to a variety of popular music.
Lit- We are beginning A Christmas Carol and started Charles Dickens biography.
Math - continuing balancing equations and using manipulative to see how it actually works.
Chemistry - Started on mixtures and how some are pure substances and some are mixtures.
Grammar - Started on adverbs
Creative Writing - everyone shared their projects on honesty. It is so interesting to see how each student interprets the assignment - there were many thoughts, views, opinions, and research and all did a fabulous job.
10/12Hisrory -  we finished up the 80’s by
looking at the most cringe worthy trends and the foods of the 80s that we no longer have
Literature - finished Charles Dickens biography and started listening to A Christmas Carol. ( 20 minutes of audio recording)
Math - continuing balancing equations. How to treat a negative variable as the answer.
Chemistry - we saw how mixtures can be homogenous or heterogenous
Grammar - continued study of adverbs and diagramed sentences with adverbs.
Creative Writing - autobiography is due Monday.
10/16 History - we started our look at the 90’s with what entertained us.
Lit - We discussed the characterization of the Christmas Carol characters and listened to the next 20 minutes of audio book.
Math - learned about algebra in everyday life and did 2 algebra crosswords.
Chemistry - learned about the differences between physical and chemical change and did an experiment on how digestion uses both kinds of changes.
Grammar - more on adverbs. The 2nd page is homework.
Creative Writing - heard some very interesting autobiographies. "Your major award" speech is due Thursday. 3 - 5 minutes and you are accepting a major award ( of your choice). 
10/18 History - we learned about George Bush and Bill Clinton s presidencies
Lit - discussed the themes of CC and listened to minute 40 - 60 of the audio book.
Math - continuing linear equations with multiplication and how to handle the variable on the right side and negative.
Chemistry - continued experiments of physical and chemical change. Applying a base (baking soda) to an acid (lemon wedge) makes a good chemical change. We tried dissolving styrofoam in nail polish remover but there wasn’t enough acetone.
Grammar - continuing adverbs
Creative Writing - award speech is due Thursday and talk to someone about their memories of the 1990s due Monday.
10/23 History - talked about and listened to various 90s music
Lit - discussed questions about Spirit of Christmas Past and listened to the next 20 minutes of A Christmas Carol ( we are up to 1 hour 40 minutes)
Math - worked on time conversion
Chemistry - learned about kinetic theory of motion and did an experiment showing how
temperature energy affects the motion of molecules.
Grammar - continuing study of adverbs.
Creative Writing - finished speeches. Assignment for 10/26 is to be prepared to give a speech on how to do something and show how to do it.
10/25 Literature - watched George C Scott in A Christmas Carol while most of the class was performing at Spring Hill Library.
Math - started the d=vt formula. Will continue this Thursday.
Chemistry - started chemical reaction and chemical equations. Will continue this Thursday
Grammar - continued the using adverbs correctly handout with finding the wrong adverbs.
Finished the day with mad libs
10/26History - finished the 90s with the Gulf War
Lit- discussed the themes of Christmas Carol and listened to 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hour mark.
Math - more balancing equations work
Chemistry - more discussion of chemical reactions and which state the elements are in.
Creative Writing - demonstration speeches.
11/2 History - we started the 2000s in history by looking at the culture, election of President Bush, Bin Laden, and saw how many world events were serious to tragic. For homework, we are creating a time capsule. Write about how life is for you now and include any goals you have for the near future. We will bury our capsule Monday.
Lit - finished A Christmas Carol. Will see Muppets Christmas Carol Monday
Math - continued balancing equations, number sequences, and the Fibonacci Sequence
Chemistry - began balancing chemical equations
Grammar- began studying pronouns.

11/9 - History we took newspapers from the early 2000 s and made news magazines from them.
Chemistry- decomposed hydrogen peroxide by using hydrogen peroxide, yeast, water, and dish soap.
Grammar - studied conjunctions and interjections.
11/13 history - looked at the culture and popular things of the 2010s.
Lit - listened from 58 minute til 1:33 of The Outsiders
Math - Distributive Property
Chemistry - Formation Reaction and videos about oxygen and hydrogen forming water.
11/15 History - looked at entertainment of the 2010s - music and movies
Lit - listened to the next 20 minutes of the Outsiders
Math - solved equations with distributive property on both sides of the equal sign
Chemistry - combustive reactions and how the Hindenburg burned.
Grammar - parts of speech review
Creative Writing - wrote Thanksgiving poems

11/16 History - we studied Banksy and his protest graffiti then created our own Banksy art.

History - started our study of ancient Egypt by looking at map of Africa, Egypt, and region.We also made Naan bread, like the Egyptians ate.
Math - continued study of geometry and how to name angles
Chemistry - started our study of light and experimented with a prism.
Grammar - took a look at many ways to research material.

2/9 History - saw a video about the rulers of the Middle Kingdom in Egypt.
Lit- finished chapter 10, started chapter 11 and listened til the 2:50 mark of Emma
Math - determined the center point in triangles and reasoned and proved the missing side length possibilities of triangles
Chemistry - we are deep in chemistry and I want you to know how proud I am of the students trying so hard to understand the material. We practiced the Lewis Structure and compound annotation using Lewis Structure.
The rest of the afternoon was spent working on our class novels.
** homework due 2/15 - a 3 to 5 minute speech about running for an office. The office is your choice but let's treat this assignment like a serious campaign speech.**
2/19 History - we have moved to ancient Greece and started on their dramas
Lit- we finished chapter 14 and started 15 of Emma. Also had some good discussion about how sickness, socioeconomic class, and dating was different in the early 1800's.
Math - studied side angle side and angle side angle measurements of triangles
Chemistry - the science of cotton candy
Adulting class- creating a budget.
2/20 History - started on Greek architecture, the difference in columns, and the Parthenon in Nashville
Literature- finished volume 1 of Emma
and moved on to beginning volume 2.
Math- worked on AAS of triangles and will review Monday.
Chemistry - we looked at electronegativity  then watched a quick video about the periodic table.
Creative Writing- take a Greek myth and give a different viewpoint to a main character OR change a character from male to female OR give the main character something different to work with. Use your imagination and it does not have to be long. 100 words is plenty
2/26 History began the study of Greek philosophers. Pick 1of the following to write a 100 word paragraph. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Thales, Empedocles, Democritus, Heraclitus, Pythagoras, Anaxagoras.Due Monday.
Literature- finished vol 2, chap 2 of Emma
Math - continued SsA with triangles
Chemistry - started covalent bonds. Made a giant covalent bonds with everyone in class.
Creative Writing: read re written Greek stories
Grammar- started guideline for science fair report.
Due Wednesday: re written Greek story

History - started Roman civilization. Had a Roman snack of apples, yogurt, and honey

3/20 History - started learning about the social divisions in Rome. Everyone picked a social class and an everyday activity to learn about and present next Thursday.

Made eclipse watching boxes. Mrs Sherry got everyone safety glasses so we went outside to safely see the eclipse.

4/10 History - looked at the components of Roman armies and made chain mail.
Lit - listened to chapter 5 to point 22 minutes on the you tube audio book Math - started working on volume of geometric shapes

Creative Writing - wrote in play doh using Sumarian uniform symbols
4/22 History - started the Persian Empire and King Cyrus. Sampled pistachios and figs.
Lit - listened to1:10 mark of Princess Bride, chap 5, part 2.
Math - worked on dilations on graphs
Chemistry - started Enthalpy.
