Program Descriptions

The Big Buddy/Little Buddy Program is a Rockets tradition and builds lasting relationships between older and younger team members that keeps on giving year after year.  All swimmers are encouraged to participate in the “Buddy Program”, however, they are given the option at the beginning of the swim season whether they would like to participate.  Big Buddies, usually ages 10 - 14 are assigned to show new or younger swimmers ‘the ropes’ of being on the Rockets swim team or to be a good example to younger swimmers.  Big Buddies encourage their Little Buddies at swim meets or practices welcoming them, holding their towels after meet races as they cheer them on in their event(s), providing cards and small gifts, any show of kindness and support.  Little Buddies can also watch their Big Buddy swim, hold a towel for them and learn from them.

Rollingwood Rockets Booster Club (RRBC) Meetings are held the THIRD WEDNESDAY of each month (with the exception of December) from 6:00 - 7:30 in the upstairs lounge at Rollingwood Athletic Club.  Elected board members are required to attend and any active RRBC members are encouraged to attend.  Active RRBC members are defined as registered swimmer families that have paid their swim team fees, RRBC dues, and have performed required volunteer hours.

Event Descriptions

The Registration Night Social and general membership meeting for the RRBC is on a Friday night in early spring and provides an opportunity for new and returning families to get together in a social environment, meet the coaches, see who's signing up for the team, learn about team suits and other information regarding the team and get signed up with in-person help from our registrar and other board members.  The indoor pool will be open and lifeguard provided for the kids to indulge and prepare for the upcoming swim season.
Pre-registered families are welcome to come to this family social.

The Ice Breaker Social is our first, official "team party" of the year.  The idea behind this social is literally to "break the ice" and bring our Rockets family together after the off-season, meet- up with new and old friends and get the season off to the right start.
At the Ice Breaker Social the Big & Little Buddy assignments are revealed, team t-shirts distributed, questions answered about volunteer requirements, and an overall good time together is encouraged as the team gears up for a great summer swim season.
The pool is open for kids and parents to swim as well as the BBQ!

The Fort Rock Fundraiser is a parent's night out and fundraiser held at Fort Rock Brewing at Hazel and Highway 50. There will be a silent auction, games and plenty of revelry! This is a great opportunity to mingle with current and alumni families, enjoy some craft beer and bid on some incredible items!

The Swim-a-thon is the only fundraiser for the Rockets Swim Team.  It takes place one afternoon in June at Rollingwood Athletic Club, and is an annual fundraiser that has grown over the years from a simple swim-a-thon into a silent auction, raffle and fun-fest including an evening of dinner, music and dance.  Proceeds from the event help to offset costs for league fees, swim equipment, meet expenses, coaches clinics, ribbons, medals, hospitality, awards, etc. The Swim-a-thon is full of fun activities and events for the whole family.   Don't miss it!

Swim-a-thon:  Each participating swimmer receives pledges for the number of laps they swim or a lump sum amount donated by a supportive sponsor.  The swim-time for each swimmer is determined by their practice group.  If team members are unable to attend, consider making a “buddy” pledge for a teammate or two!

Silent Auction:  We ask that every swim team family try to donate an item to our Raffle or Silent Auction even if unable to make the event.  Generous donations from Rocket families have included something from the "Make-It, Bake-It, Grow-It, Sew-It" category.  Some ideas are...Babysitting Services, Cookies, Cakes & Pies, Plants & Flowers, Music Lessons, ANY LESSONS!, Summer Camps, Event Tickets, Gift Cards or Vacation Homes.

Coaches Appreciation Week - This is a time when we acknowledge our coaches (head, assistant and junior) with letters of appreciation, small gifts, and/or tokens of kindness.  There will be a "theme of the day" for each of the days this week to inspire swimmers and families to think of what the coaches have offered all summer long, and how each family can share their gratitude and their sentiments.

Movie Night is a team social where the Saturday after the last swim meet, families are invited to return to the club for  snacks and a movie with teammates.  There are two movies offered; the earlier movie is rated G or PG and geared toward the younger kids.  The second movie is offered from the outdoor pool (floats and rafts are encouraged) and is PG-13, attracting some of the older swimmers and families.

The Blue Mafia Sleepover is another long standing Rockets tradition.  Each year after our Swim-A-Thon fundraiser, the oldest and most elite Blue Mafia swimmers are invited to spend the night at the club accompanied by parent chaperones.  Games are played, friendships are fortified and new friendships made.  This is one night of the swim season that up and coming Rockets swimmers can't wait for...a right of passage, so to speak.

Awards Night is the final event of the swim season.  Coaches speak to the accomplishments of each swimmer and award each swimmer with a medal.  Swimmers also earn team trophies for Most Improved, Outstanding Achievement, Hustler, and MVP for their age group.  Awards Night is from 5:00 - 9:00 and includes dinner.
