Bob Hill
Head Coach
Bob began swimming with San Jose Aquatics at 7 years old. At 12 he and three of his teammates broke the National Record for the 200 Medley Relay, and broke Pacific Swimming records in the 200 Free, 400 Free, and 400 Medley Relays as well. He swam for Pioneer High School, qualifying for CCS all four years, and for West Valley Jr. College placing 4 th in the 200 Butterfly at State Championships in both 1989 and 1990.
Bob began his coaching career in 1992 and has held Assistant and Head Coach positions here in the Bay Area and in Washington where he most recently was head coach for Barracuda Swimming. After moving back to the Bay Area in May of 2011, he became the Head Age Group coach with SUNN Swimming and in May of 2013 Bob became the Head Coach.
Alex Romanko
Senior Coach
Alex is former collegiate water polo player and current “swammer.” Alex has been with SUNN since 2017 and is entering his thirteenth season coaching within Pacific Swimming, having coached and taught every age group and every ability level; from learn-to-swim to Far Westerns champions. He is an active member of Pacific Swimming’s All-Star Developmental Program, and is the current Zone 1-North All-Stars Head Coach. Alex was also nominated for Pacific Swimming's Age Group Coach of the Year in both 2018 and 2019.
Alex is a Sunnyvale local and prides himself on giving back to the community. He is a graduate of Homestead High School, where he both swam and played water polo on varsity all four years. During the spring, you can find Alex back on the Mustang pool deck coaching his alma mater. Alex also serves as the General Manager at Fairbrae Swim & Racquet Club, where his little sister swam as an age group swimmer. His commitment to local programs is a major component of his long-term motivation and dedication to serve his immediate community.
Alex is very passionate about his work, and believes that understanding and explaining the “why” in swimming the most critical aspect of his job. His swimmers are encouraged to not get too caught up in results, but to focus on the process. He acknowledges that swimming is a tough sport (the toughest!) and strives to coach the kids that not only work the hardest, but have the most fun.
Andy Clifford
Age Group
Andy Clifford began his career in aquatics in 1972. After a 12 year career as an Age-group and Senior swimmer, which includes 5 years of club Water Polo and 4 years of Varsity Swimming and Water Polo, Andy began teaching swimming in 1984 and 2 years later began working as an Age-group coach. After 4 years at Ladera Oaks as an Age-group Coach, Andy moved to Sharon Heights Golf and Country Club as Head Coach and Pool Manager. He returned to LO in 1997 as the Head Assistant Coach for the Aquatics Program. In 2003, Andy took over as Aquatic Teams Director and served as the Head Coach for the Ladera Oaks PSA Summer-league Team, USA Year-round Team and USMS Masters Team. In the spring of 2016, Andy transitioned out of the Head Coach role to pursue new opportunities in Aquatics while still managing a vibrant United States Masters program.
Andy believes in developing well-rounded swimmers, focusing on Individual Medley and distance swimming. Technique development and aerobic training are the main component of Andy’s training philosophy. Andy’s extensive teaching background benefits all of his swimmers. Andy enjoys the close nature of a single-site aquatics program.
Ladera Oaks won Six PSA Summer League Championships during Andy’s tenure. He has also coached swimmers to the Pacific Swimming Junior Olympic and Far Western levels, as well as the High School and USA Sectional and Junior National levels. He currently serves as a board member on the Pacific Swimming Board of Review. In addition, Andy has been certified by the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA.) This certification represents Andy's education, experience and ethics in the sport of swimming.
Away from the pool, Andy enjoys hiking, cooking and traveling with his fiancée Lisa. Andy, Lisa and Murphy the cat plan to add a new furry four-legged canine friend to the family soon.
Jen Brown
Novice Coach
Jen has been a lifeguard and swim instructor for over 22 years.She started as a junior lifeguard and instructor at age 13 with California Sports Center(CSC). Through her years at CSC she helped build and create their swim lesson program. At the beginning of her career in Aquatics, Jen taught swim lessons and served as the Youth Program Coordinator running the day-to-day operations. Later on in her career with CSC she switched over to the Adult Program Coordinator where she was in charge of the lifeguards. Later still, Jen became Head Coach of the CSC Masters program. Jen is currently dual-employed between SUNN and with the City of Sunnyvale where she serves as a Pool Manager.
Jen has been a SUNN coach for 2 years, starting as an assistant coach and a substitute. In 2020, Jen transitioned to the Novice Silver Coach position.
Austin Fiehler
Junior Coach
Austin Fiehler was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Williamsburg, VA. He started swimming at 7 and joined Williamsburg Aquatic Club(WAC) the following year. Austin was selected for the the Eastern Zone meet and qualified as the first 8 year old from Virginia. At 10 he was fortunate enough to race Michael Phelps, which lead to his first Top 16 reportable time in the 100 breaststroke. At ten Austin was nationally ranked 13th in the 100breast and 16th in the 50 breast.
Austin attended Jamestown High School, playing on both the golf and swim team all four years. Jamestown would go on to win the state title his freshman year. In his senior year, Austin won the 200 IM AA state title. Austin would swim at the collegiate level for Virginia Tech and, during his time there, would place top 24 at ACCs in the 400 IM.
Austin started coaching at 16 for his summer league swim team, the First Colony Flyers. He started year round coaching at 19 with the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins, where he would coach for 3 years. Austin later spent some time working in the golf industry at Fords Colony- teaching clinics, giving lessons and as a Cartboy. In 2014, Austin was reunited with his birth family and came to visit California for four days and in that time fell in love with the state. The following year Austin decided he wanted to stay for good, so he did. Austin started working with south bay schools bay giving golf lessons to elementary children before eventually landing with the team at SUNN. Austin has a passion for working with kids and believes it is his role to help them grow into not just great athletes but great people as well.
Julie Eisenhauer
Office Administrator
Julie grew up in Palo Alto, graduated from Gunn High School and went to San Jose State University where she studied Communications and Business. Julie settled in San Jose with her husband, but spent 10 years living in Southern Illinois and moved back to San Jose in 2014. Julie has worked in corporate, non-profit and higher education for over 20 years. Julie joined SUNN in August 2018.
Julie has two children - Ben is 18 and is going to De Anza College and playing baseball for De Anza. Emma is a sophomore and used to compete in swimming while living in Southern Illinois, but her latest sports passion is volleyball.
Julie enjoys reading, hiking, biking and playing with Rosie her dog and Roxy her cat. Julie loves to spend time with her family and watch her children play sports.
Jason Wong
Senior Coach
Jason started swimming competitively with USA Swimming at age 7 and competed in every level of youth competition from summer league dual meets to Far Westerns and NCS. He was captain of the Mission San Jose High and De Anza College swimming and water polo teams, and is still the 100 IM record holder for Kennedy Seals Swim Club.
Jason started teaching swimming while still a high school sophomore and was returned to coach his high school team in 2003 and 2004. He led MSJ to consecutive conference championships, consecutive undefeated seasons, and 14 new league records. After some years away from swimming to complete his degree at UCLA, Jason returned to coaching at Piedmont Hills High and West Coast Aquatics in San Jose. At Piedmont, the boys improved from zero CCS qualifiers his first year, to a top 16 team in 2019. The girls set 7 new school records during his tenure. At WEST, Jason was the Lead 12 & under Coach before becoming Head Coach in 2019. The team placed 1st among medium teams at Pacific Swimming's Zone 1S Championships in 2020.
Kylie Sherman
Age Group Coach
Kylie grew up in the Bay Area and joined the Pinehurst Piranhas summer swim team at age 6. She joined SUNN to swim year-round starting that fall, beginning in what was at the time called Blue Group and finishing in Senior Gold in 2017. Her best events were the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle, the second of which she swam at CCS for the Homestead High School team. She swam with the Masters team at UC Davis and now continues to practice on her own.
Kylie began working as an assistant coach with SUNN the summer of her senior year in high
school. She returned to assist with the Summer Splash program while in college and, having
graduated, is happy to be back and working with Age Group Bronze. She hopes to help her
swimmers learn what it means to work hard and be dedicated to a sport like swimming, while at the same time making sure they still have fun.
