Criteria, Placement & Advancement to the next practice group

These are the Fusion Aquatics list of practice groups and requirements to be able to move up to the next group.  As swimmers progress, their Coach will determine when they are allowed to move into more advanced training groups.  Swimmers are placed into training groups according to each group’s criteria and Coach’s recommendations (not parents or swimmers).  Below is a basic description of the criteria and requirements for each group.

All Groups

  • Swimmers must be ON TIME unless otherwise communicated with their coach.
  • Must have endurance to swim the full duration of that groups practice.
  • MUST demonstrate Maturity, Desire, and Swimming Technique before being able to move onto the next group!

Age Group/ Pre comp 1 & 2 (Coach Lisa/David) 45 minutes - 1 hour

  • MUST be able to do a 25-yards of Freestyle and 25-yards of Backstroke.
  • This group is designed to introduce competitive swimming with a focus on developing a solid technical foundation, increased coordination and awareness, inspiring love for swimming and the sport, and conquering trepidation and fears. 
  • Through a series of stroke technique drills and teaching basic training methods, the Green Guppies will become more comfortable on the team, in practice and in competition, and they will become competent in all four competitive strokes.
  • This group is specific for 8-yo and under or other wise beginner level for 11-yo and under to determine the process to move up for the right group.
  • Goals include developing basic practice skills and comfort at swim meets.
  • Athletes are offered 5 practice a week, and those hoping to advance to Age Group.
  • Must demonstrate their goals by attending 4 training sessions. (No Saturday Practice – otherwise specified).

Age Group (Coach David )1:10-1:20 hours

  • Must be able to swim an interrupted 100-yards of Freestyle and 1)00-yards of Backstroke.
  • Athletes are also challenged to bring new technical developments into competition.
  • Must be able to complete 50-yards of Butterfly and 50-yards of Breaststroke.
  • Age requirement 8-10 years old or specify requirement for kids.
  • This group will focus on 70% technique and 30 % workout.
  • Most will consist red and blue and white swimmers, in some cases, Junior Olympic Qualifier.
  • The primary focus is to correct all the stroke level and still have fun with teammates.
  • Athletes are offered 6 practices a week, and those hoping to advance to Age Group Development group must demonstrate their goals by attending 5 training sessions.

Age Group Development (Coach Audy/Tolman) 1:30 - 1:45 hours

  • Must have June invite - for 9 and under kids.
  • Athletes are also challenged to bring new technical developments into competition.
  • Goals include developing and executing racing strategy, demonstrating sportsmanship and teamwork, and increased practice skills.  
  • Minimum 8 – 13 years old.  The coach can designate the 8-year old swimmers to swim in this group when the Coach see the potential or desire within.
  • Athletes are offered 6 practices a week, and those hoping to advance to the Pre-Senior Development group must demonstrate their goals by attending 5 training sessions/week.
  • The coach will determine to move 12-yo kids into Pre-Senior Development base upon commitment and goal setting in each swim meets. The review will be every 6 months.

Pre-Senior Development (Coach Audy)1:45 - 2 Hours

  • This group is in conjunction with age 12-yo to 14-yo that needs to refocus with the stroke technique and work ethics.
  • The group does not have requirements on how many practices a week they need to attend. The coach will continue to monitor the attendance and work ethics for a period of 6-12 month before they move up fully to the Senior Development group.
  • Must be able to complete a test set of 10x100’s @ 1:40 and 6x200s IM @ 3:30 minutes base.
  • Must be working towards December Invite, June Invite or Senior Development meets, have a basic understanding of intervals and timing within a practice set, and must have swimming goals mapped out.
  • Athletes are offered 6 practices a week and those hoping to advance to the Senior Development group must demonstrate their goals by attending 5 training sessions.
  • Minimum age is 12 years old.

Senior Development (Coach Audy) 1:45 - 2 Hours

  • Must be able to complete a test set of 10x100’s @ 1:20 and 6x200s IM @ 3 min base.
  • Must be working towards state qualifying times, have a basic understanding of intervals and timing within a practice set, and MUST have swimming goals mapped out.
  • Athletes are offered 6 practices a week, and those hoping to advance to the Senior Team must demonstrate their goals by attending 5 training sessions.
  • Minimum age is 13 years old.
  • There is specific 12-yo swimmer can be in this group with at least 2 Junior Olympic time for 13 -14-yo (400/500 Race preferably).

Senior (Coach Audy/Coach Lisa) 2 - 2:15 hours

  • Must have state cuts (USA motivational BB times) and be working towards Sectionals/Zones cuts.
  • With a focus on bringing the benefits of technical focus and a progressive workload together, the CS Current Senior Team has an increased expectation for CS Current athletes in the areas of commitment, training capacity and leadership.
  • Must have a sense of internal motivation and hard work ethic.
  • The Senior Team serves as a transition for adolescent athletes into a more rigorous training program and a home for high school athletes who wish to remain multi-sport or are unable to meet the demands and expectations of the National Team.
  • Athletes are offered 6 practices a week, and those hoping to advance to the National Team must demonstrate their goals by attending all training sessions.
  • For athletes ages 13-18.
