2. IS OUR PROGRAM RIGHT FOR YOU?
optimized for mobile phones
WHO ARE WE?
Our goal as a team is to develop children into strong, independent athletes who can find success at the highest level of the sport. We educate parents regularly and work with our swimmers to encourage athlete autonomy. We believe that athlete autonomy leads to a stronger personal drive, a higher degree of accountability and ultimately, a deeper sense of accomplishment when succeeding.
Horizon Swimming partners with the Southeast Ventura County YMCA's in Simi and Westlake to provide indoor training year-round for our young athletes. Our older swimmers continue their training by meeting in the middle at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks!
IS OUR PROGRAM RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
Stingray Pre-Comp Team (6 - 12 years old)
Horizon partners with the Yarrow and Simi Valley YMCA's to offer the Stingrays, a pre-competitive program that acts as a bridge between swim lessons and the competitive age group team.
The Stringrays meet twice a week at the Yarrow Family YMCA and Simi Valley Family YMCA for 45 minutes and compete regularly in small intrasquad competitions hosted at the YMCA by Horizon Swimming. Schedules vary depending on the site, but classes generally run on Wed and Fri between the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
Age Group Competitive Team (7 - 13 years old)
The Age Group Program consists of four groups (London, Rio, Athens & Tokyo) and is geared primarily toward athletes age 14 and younger. In order to be considered for the entry level of the Age Group program, a swimmer must be able to swim 2 x 25's of Freestyle with side breathing, a 25 of Backstroke proficiently and have a basic knowledge of Breaststroke and Butterfly.
Senior Competitive Team (12 - 18 years old)
Our Senior Program consists of two groups (Beijing and Senior) for athletes 12 and older. To be placed in the Senior Group, your swimmer must be of high school age, have extensive competitive experience and be a strong athlete across all disciplines. To be considered for the Beijing Group your child must be a strong swimmer, but prior competitive experience is not a pre-requisite.

**Simi Valley swimmers are required to also maintain a YMCA membership, which is why the cost is lower. With a Youth Membership at the YMCA, the costs between Simi and Yarrow roughly balance out. As a member of Horizon Swimming, you get your joining fee at the YMCA waived and recieve a discount on your YMCA membership.
