COMPETITIVE DIVISION



The Compeitive Division comprises of Sr Age Group, Jr Age Group and Jr Development Group; geared towards swimmers between the ages of 8 and 17 with previous competitive swim experience.

Age Group swimmers work to develop their fitness levels (i.e., strength, speed, stamina) and to master all four Olympic competitive swim strokes with competency. Age Group swimmers train to meet Provincial standard qualifying times and attend swim meets throughout the season.

Swim season runs from September to June.  Placement by coach, prior AG level competitive training with alternative club or placement through tryouts.  Please refer to below for grouping descriptions, training standards and expectations, practice schedule and meets.

 


Senior Age Group (previously known as A.G.1)


Long Term Development (L.T.D.) Stage:

  • TRAIN TO TRAIN

Description:

  • Geared towards swimmers between the ages of 12 and 17 with previous competitive swim experience.
  • Swimmers aim to meet provincial time standards in their age category and attend swim meets throughout the season (i.e., once every month).
  • Season: September to June

Pre-requisite:

  • Assessment and recommendation from Head Coach, based on talent identification and long-term potential.
  • Have a high commitment to personal training and long-term goals.

Expectations:

  • Trains 5 times in the pool, plus additional dry-land training per week
  • Swimmers will arrive on deck 15 minutes before each practice for activation protocol.
  • Swimmers will have all required training equipment at every practice.
  • Swimmers will attend all scheduled practices to the best of their ability with an 85% expectation.
  • Swimmers will attend most of the scheduled competitions as outlined for the group.
  • Swimmers will conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism at all practices and swim meets.
  • Swimmers will represent the Georgina Rapids Aquatic Club with pride by wearing required Team Wear at all meets without exception.

Junior Age Group (previously known as A.G.2)


Long Term Development (L.T.D.) Stage:

  • LEARN TO TRAIN/ TRAIN TO TRAIN

Description:

  • Geared towards swimmers between the ages of 7 and 13.
  • Swimmers aim to meet provincial time standards in their age category and attend swim meets throughout the season (i.e., once every month).
  • Season: September to June

Junior Development (previously known as D.V.1)


Long Term Development (L.T.D.) Stage:

  • FUNDAMENTALS/ LEARN TO TRAIN

Description:

  • Geared towards swimmers between the ages of 7 and 13.
  • Swimmers aim to further develop their technical swim skills in the four competitive strokes and learn the competitive rules as it relates to starts, turns, and finishes.
  • Swimmers will develop their physical fitness skills (i.e., speed, stamina, strength) and will learn how to train in a pool environment, including the use of pace clocks, and completing swim workouts.
  • Swimmers attend swim meets throughout the season (i.e., once every 6 weeks).
  • Season: September to June

Pre-requisite:

  • Try-it assessment from coaches to advance, based on talent identification and long-term potential.
  • Commitment to your own competition and training.

Expectations:

  • Trains 3 times in the pool per week
  • Swimmers will arrive on deck 15 minutes before each practice for activation protocol.
  • Swimmers will have all required training equipment at every practice.
  • Swimmers will attend all scheduled practices to the best of their ability with an 80% expectation.
  • Swimmers will attend most of the scheduled competitions as outlined for the group.
  • Swimmers will conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism at all practices and swim meets.
  • Swimmers will represent the Georgina Rapids Aquatic Club with pride by wearing required Team Wear at all meets without exception.
