Updated Power ranking info
From Swim BC:
Probably the most under-utilized yet feature-rich online resource for those of us in Canadian swim-land is the off-shoot of the European-based SwimRankings.net website. SNC partnered with the folks over there, providing them with copies of meet results to put into their own database, whereupon he built a front-end and made use of some of powerful rankings and reporting features of his main site.
First of all: How to get there.
1. Remember the http://rankings.swimming.ca, or
2. Go to any page on our site and click on the “Quick Link” (right-hand side) that says “Swimmer PB Lookup”
Ok, so once you’re there (and yes – this one has been covered before), cool thing number one is that after you search (and search is good and quick), the resulting page you get for your swimmer has a unique URL (that long HTTP thing up in your browser bar). And that URL isn’t going to change. Bookmark that, send it to Grandma and Grandpa and any time you click on it, there’s your swimmer’s PBs.
Cool think #2: Just about any piece of information there has more information buried beneath it. If your swimmer’s 400 Free PB had splits input into the meet computer, hover over the time and the splits show up.
You can also click on the city and/or name of the meet and see the results from that event at that meet where your swimmer did his/her best time.
You can also click on the event name (like 400 Free) and get a list of EVERY SINGLE ONE of your swimmer’s performances in that event, ranked fastest to slowest. And again, hover over the time to see splits, click on the city where the meet was held to see the results from that event at the meet. And then there’s also a little “graph” icon (upper right of the list of performances) where you can get a graph that shows the progression of performances over time.
I know, I know – you’ve seen that song and dance before as it’s been there for a few years now, but for the newbies, I thought I’d include it.
The new features are more for examining actual rankings as opposed to just personal results. First up is BC rankings. Follow this link: http://rankings.swimming.ca/?page=rankingDetail&club=CAN.BC and you get the Top BC swimmer in each event.
While that’s all fine and good, the really cool stuff shows up when you start to play with some of the dropdown-box options at the top. Of course, you’ve got SC/LC, year, male/female, but over on the right where it says OPEN, if you click on that, you get a list of individual ages and age groups. Choose your age / age group, then click on an event and see rankings in that event. Click on any swimmer in those ranking lists and you get back to that individual swimmer results page that you saw earlier.
And then there’s the grand trick: You see that URL above that ends with “CAN.BC”? Well, guess what happens if you ditch the “BC” there and replace it with... oh, I dunno – maybe your club code, like this: http://rankings.swimming.ca/?page=rankingDetail&club=CAN.COMOX (where I live). That’s right, boys and girls – exactly the same reporting, but exclusively for your club.
As an added bonus, click on that dropdown box that says 2013 (or whatever year you’d selected) and choose ALL TIME instead. I saw results in there going back to 2001 (who knew?)!). Cool stuff.
