THE COACHING REPORT
LAC Development:
Congratulations to all Development and beginning Age Group swimmers on a very successful Holiday Time Trial. Although 'time trial' is the name given to these meets, as coaches, we are really looking at technique and skill development. If a time is slower than a previous meet but the stroke or turns or start have incorporated techniques which have been worked upon in practice this is a much more successful swim than dropping time. With more efficient strokes and turns swimmers will excel as they grow and become more confident in their abilities. Similarly a 'DQ' or disqualification shouldn't be met with disappointment at this stage, this is a critical component to racing, can you race, and do all the correct skills? A DQ is a reminder that some things need to be practiced, at practice, each and every time to become a habit, and one less thing to think about at a swim meet.
A special shout out to the swimmers in Development 3 who competed in their first meet. It was exciting to watch them compete for the first time and for them to be involved in the LAC spirit!
2022 Ken Demchuck International Invitational:
Hannah Burns participated as part of Team Ontario at the 2022 Ken Demchuck International Invitational, where she made Finals in all of her events and won a Bronze medal in the 50 Backstroke. Hannah also participated on both the Free and Medley 4X50 – 20 Point Relays. Congratulations to Hannah and Coach Darda Sales for participating as part of Team Ontario.
2022 HolidayTime Trial:
The Holiday Time Trial was a great success with many of our LAC swimmers trying some longer more aerobically challenging races with fantastic results. The coaches were impressed by the display of team work as friends raced together through the challenge of new events! We had two new WOSA qualifiers. Congratulations to First Time Regional Qualifiers Brynne Webb-Nicholls and Derri Yang.
Team Showdown:
Excitement was certainly in the air with so many LAC finalists and relay efforts from Team Orange and Team Blue at the Team Showdown in Brantford. Congratulations to Team Orange for outranking Team Blue at the competition! Returning to regular competition format has been not deterred our LAC athletes from stepping up and performing to the highest level they can. The coaching staff was so pleased with the outstanding efforts performed on the relay events! Congratulations to Volodymyr Stefanyshyn for being a First Time Provincial Qualifier (OYJ) and Rowan Wick for achieving the OYJC Standards in the 100 and 200 Backstroke.
The London Aquatic Club finished fourth in the Total Medal count with 53 Medals: 13 Gold, 19 Silver and 21 Bronze. Top 10 All Time LAC Performance from Connor Barnardo in the 100 Free in a time of 51.96. LAC had a SCM Best Time Percentage of 71.26, which is great to see so many swimmers swimming fast!! And in an example of rising to the occasion on Day Three of a competition; Dani Hart – Heat Winner in the 100 Free from Lane 1 and Heat Winner in the 200 Breast from Lane 8!! Congratulations on your determination to win both of those races.
Ontario Junior International:
Congratulations to the five LACers who participated at this high level Short Course competition at TPASC. Connor Barnardo, Jaqueline Chambers, Niamh O’Leary, Amaris Peng and Siporah Sang all gained valuable racing experience against the best 18 Years and under from across the country (and a few from Great Britain). Amaris Peng won two Gold medals and in the process set club records in the Women’s 15-17 100 and 200 Breast and the Women’s Open 200 Breast in times of 1:09.08 and 2:27.06 respectively. Top 10 All Time LAC Performance from Connor Barnardo in the 800 Free in a time of 8:33.32.
Senior Bronze updates from Coach Jonathon Korchuk:
Holiday SRB TT Results Total SWs: 27 Total PBs: 15 PB %: 55%.

Sometimes – It’s not who goes the Fastest, it’s who slows down the least!!
The Women’s 100 Breaststroke Final at the Ontario Junior International: Amaris Peng was in Sixth Place at the 50 meter turn, but stuck to her race plan and touched in first place for a Gold Medal in a time of 1:09.08.
Other Interesting Items: Patience and Practice are the Key Ingredients:
Italian panetonne is a domed sweet bread with a tender, bright-golden crumb, scented and studded with sugared fruit.
Iginio Massari, is Italy’s most revered master (baker) of naturally leavened panettone. He said it takes 10 years to teach an employee to make it correctly. (Source – New York Times.)
From all our LAC coaching staff, we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to more swimming success in the New Year. 2023 here we come! GO LAC GO!

IT’S OFFICIAL
Hey LAC Officials! Nice job on the Holiday Time Trial! Another excellent event by a great crew! Thanks so much! Notable here is that a lot of our more experienced officials were away and the newer officials stepped up and did great!
Dmitrij Zagidulin - Special thanks again this year to Dmitrij. He was Meet Manager for all 4 Time Trials this fall and a very fine job he has done! This is especially good for me knowing that they will be handled well so I can deal with other things. Thanks Dmitrij!
Remaining 2022/23 LAC-Hosted Short Course Meets:
January 14 - 15, 2023 - LAC - 12 & Under Celebration
January 14, 2023 - LAC - 13 & Over Time Trial
February 23 - 26, 2023 - WOSA Short Course Champs
Senior Officials: It is not too soon to start offering to work senior jobs at these meets. The 12 & Under Celebration is typically double-ended and we will need lots of officials for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. If interested, email me, a separate email for each meet, with the name of the meet in the subject and in the body the people who will be helping, the jobs they would like, and the sessions that they would like to work at. I will not be Competition Coordinator for WOSA but I will pass any offers along to whoever that is.
Minor Officials for January 14 and 15: Job postings will go up January 3 at the latest.
Meet Managers: If anyone is interested in trying to manage a meet, there are still some opportunities this season to either pair up with another Meet Manager or to do a Time Trial on your own (but still with a mentor).
Clinics: If you missed the recent round of clinics, I will be having more after the holidays and before WOSA Champs (Feb 23 – 26). I will have multiple Judge of Strokes and Turns clinics, the first prior to the 12 & Under Celebration. A few clinics are also available to take online which allows you to take them whenever it suits you. If you go to Swim Ontario - Clinics there are instructions on how to take the online clinics.
If you have any officiating questions please contact me, Mark Lukings, L.A.C. Co-Club Officials Chair at [email protected] Note: This is volunteer work for me, so I may not get back to you immediately but, if urgent, I can handle a reminder. I am still catching up on emails sent during the meet
SWIM MEET VOLUNTEER SESSION CREDITS
Our club has a long-standing policy regarding volunteer participation in our hosted swim meets, which includes the earning of mandatory session credits through working at our hosted swim meets. The session credit policy can be found on the LAC website under the "parent info" tab under "LAC policy #2 - Club Hosted Meets and Session Credits".
Families of swimmers in Age Group and Senior are required to earn 22 session credits.
Families of returning Development swimmers are required to earn 11 session credits.
New families are not required to earn session credits but can transfer up to 5 session credits if they should decide to volunteer (which of course is encouraged and applauded).
Families with swimmers that have transferred from another team are considered returning swimmers and are subject to the session credit policy.
Any unworked session credits will be billed to your swimmer account at $40 per session at the end of the season.
The Session Credit Policy is under the constant scrutiny of the Board of Directors.
COVID 19 PROTOCOLS
Please follow the MLHU protocols which can be found through this link https://www.healthunit.com/self-isolation. Please contact your swimmer's coach for further guidance if your swimmer is not feeling well and/or tests positive for COVID. Swimmers should stay home until they are symptom free. Masking is a personal preference, please respect others choices.
MLHU self-isolation guideline states “For a total of 10 days after your symptoms started or you conducted a COVID-19 test which was positive (whichever is earlier): Avoid non-essential activities where mask removal is necessary (e.g., dining out, high contact sports where masks cannot be safely worn, playing a wind instrument)”
SWIMMER STATEMENTS
Please contact Donna at [email protected] if you have any concerns with your LAC membership.
LAC BATHING CAPS
Bathing caps are available from your swimmer's coach. The cost of a cap is $12 and it will be billed to your LAC account.
SWIMMER EQUIPMENT
Please remember that all individual swim practice equipment purchases you make on the All Tides website using our LAC coupon code result in a kickback to the club, received at the end of the year. Last year the club received almost $1000 through this arrangement, most of which was put toward the purchase of dryland training equipment. You are helping the club by making your swim equipment purchases through All Tides. All group swim equipment information can be found on our website when you are logged in: https://www.teamunify.com/team/canlac/page/swimmer-equipment
