RED vs WHITE DAY 1 UPDATE, CLUB RECORDS BROKEN and NEW REGIONAL TIME QUALIFIER!
Last Friday, February 12, swimmers from the Provincial, AGP, and National Groups started a new round of Red vs White intra-club racing. As the Fall version of the Red vs White racing was highly successful, the coaching staff decided to pursue a new round of Red vs White racing. In this Winter version, swimmers were re-grouped with new team mates. Swimmers raced well, and had lots of best times!
On Saturday, February 13, swimmers from Provincial, AGP, and National Groups also raced some long course events. Of note are two swimmers that broke records.
- Katie Schroeder (15 yrs) broke the 15-17 yrs 50 LCM Backstroke record by 0.07s with a time of 30.52L. Old record holder was Katie Kotlowski from 2005.
- Alex Velicico (12 yrs) broke the 11-12 yrs 50 LCM Backstroke record by 1.40s with a time of 32.45L. Old record holder was Piyush Kaul from 2018.
On Saturday, February 13 as well, swimmers from Stroke Improvement, Regional, Olympic Way, and Mini Olympians had their 2nd time trial of the year. Time trials provide a venue for swimmers to execute and perform their best swims based on what they have learned and practiced over the past two weeks of swim practices. Of note is swimmer Oliver McPherson (9 yrs) for making his Regional Qualifying Time in the 200 IM with a time of 3:57.00. The Regional Qualifying Time is a qualifying time for swimmers in order for them to race in invitational meets across the Lower Mainland.
Congratulations to all swimmers for their great work and races over the weekend. We look forward to many more fast swimming to come!
