Swimming Canada #RaceAgain Challenge Stage 1 Results
The Langley Olympians Swim Club’s National and Provincial Groups participated in the Swimming Canada #RaceAgain Challenge. The Speedo #RaceAgain Challenge is a virtual ranking database open to all registered Swimming Canada club members. This is an opportunity for swimmers to get up on the block and #RaceAgain. The #RaceAgain Challenge is to be done over one pre-stage and 3 main stages.
Age groups for the event are as follows:
- Male: 11 yrs and under, 12-13 yrs, 14-16 yrs, 17 yrs and over
- Female: 10 yrs and under, 11-12 yrs, 13-15 yrs, and 16 yrs and over
Stage 1 is from February 26-March 21, Stage 2 is from April 9-May 2, and Stage 3 is from May 21-June 13.
At the end of Stage 1, 2 and 3, a leaderboard will be published for all participating clubs and swimmers across Canada. Each age group will have its own leaderboard ranking the top 10 swimmers with the most accumulated points across their events. Swimmers will have 3 opportunities across the 3 stages to submit times and climb the leaderboard. The Top 10 swimmers at the end of Stage 3, in each age group and multiclass, will receive awards.
Langley Olympians Swim Club placed 1st overall club in Canada! LOSC swimmers from multiple age groups ranked in the Top 10 of the Stage 1 leaderboard. Similar to the Divisional Virtual Championships, these “effort swims” were held in a safe manner. The Langley Olympians are grateful that the Township of Langley has kept the pools open since August 2020 for our swimmers to train and swim in.
Head Coach Brian Metcalfe and Assistant Head Coach Zachary Haw were proud of the Stage 1 results. “These rankings help swimmers stay motivated and engaged in the sport due to the absence of in-person competitive racing opportunities. These results have come to fruition due to swimmer’s dedication and hard work since restarting operations back in June 2020. The rankings are a testament to continued commitment to excellence and swimming performances. We look forward to improving training and performances for the second and third stages.”
Next event for the Langley Olympians would be the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Trials to be held in Toronto this coming May 24-28, 2021. Two swimmers – Hugh McNeill and Bailey Herbert -from LOSC will be attending the Olympic Trials.
