FIRST OFFICIAL SWIM MEET FOR LANGLEY OLYMPIAN SWIMMERS! - CAME HOME WITH TWO PROVINCIAL RECORDS!
The Langley Olympians Swim Club swimmers competed in their first official Swim Meet since March of 2020. Five (5) Langley Olympians participated in the Spartan CSI Pacific Athletes Meet in Chilliwack BC. This meet welcomed seven (7) teams within the Lower Mainland area from May 21st – 23rd. This was a great meet for the Langley Olympians Swim Club swimmers who placed first overall and reach the podium in 11 events. The highlight of the meet was a swimmer from LOSC, Leila Fack, broke two Provincial Records!
Lelia Fack (14 Years) placed in four events this weekend. She placed first in the Women’s 50m Freestyle and set not only a new Langley Olympians Club record time for 13-14 yrs old and Open/Senior category but a 13-14 yrs Provincial record with a best time of 25.56. Leila broke Jessica Luo’s record by 0.37s from 2017. Leila also broke the Women’s 100 13-14 yrs Freestyle Provincial record with a time of 55.96. Leila broke that record by 0.01s! The old record holder was Alex Gabor from 2007. In addition, Leila placed first in the Mixed 50m Butterfly with a time of 27.46, and second in the Mixed 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.56.
Hugh McNeill (17 Years) placed in four events this weekend. He placed first in the Mixed 100m Backstroke with a time of 54.94, the Mixed 100m Freestyle with a time of 52.06 and in the Mixed 200m Backstroke with a time of 1:58.72. He also placed second in the Mixed 200m Freestyle with a time of 1:54.46.
Aiden Erickson (16 Years) placed second in the Mixed 400m Freestyle with a best time of 4:01.00 and placed third in the Mixed 200m Butterfly.
Bailey Herbert (18 Years) placed third in the Mixed 100m Breaststroke with a time 1:08.57 and fourth in the Mixed 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:47.19.
Katelyn Schroeder (15 Years) placed fourth in the Mixed 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:00.91, 5th in the Mixed 200m Backstroke with a time of 2:08.93, 9th in the Mixed 100m Freestyle with a time of 58.88, and 9th in the Mixed 200 Freestyle with a time of 2:08.83 .
Coach Brian Metcalfe and the swimmers was excited to be back racing other swimmers in the province. It was refreshing to get back to racing and competing other swimmers. Recently, two clubs in the Province successfully held a safe and successful event, one being in Kamloops from May 1-2 and now recently in Chilliwack. The rest of the swimmers from Langley Olympians Swim Club hope to be able to swim in their swim meet soon with the permission of the Township of Langley.
