CANADIAN OLYMPIC TRIALS DAY 1 UPDATE
The first day of the Canadian Swimming Olympic Trials has officially begun!
Current Langley Olympian National Group Swimmer Hugh McNeill made the 100 Backstroke Final and finished 9th overall with a time of 56.37s. He was seeded 9th coming into finals with a best time of 56.34s.
Langley Olympian Alumna Josie Field made the 100 Butterfly Final and finished 8th overall with a best time of 1:00.98. She was seeded 10th with a best time of 1:01.06.
In this first day of the Olympic Trials, here are some of the highlights:
- Joshua Liendo (19 yr old) broke the 100 Butterfly National record with a time of 51.40 during prelims. In addition, he qualified for his first Olympic Games
- Double (2017 & 2019) World Champion and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Kylie Masse broke the 100 Backstroke National record with a time of 57.70 in finals. Kylie also qualified for her second Olympic Games.
- Women’s 100 Butterfly Olympic Qualifiers – 2019 World Champion Maggie MacNeil and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Katerine Savard
- Men’s 100 Backstroke – 2016 Olympian Markus Thormeyer and rookie 19 yr old Cole Pratt
