CANADIAN OLYMPIC TRIALS DAY 3 FINAL UPDATE
The third day of the Canadian Olympic Trials showcased a mixed Olympic qualifiers from rookie Summer McIntosh to comeback veteran Brent Hayden. Events tonight included Women’s 800 Freestyle, Men’s 1500 Freestyle, Women’s and Men’s 200 IM, and Women’s and Men’s 50 Freestyle. Two Langley Olympian Swimmers swam today.
Current Langley Olympian National Group Swimmer Hugh McNeill swam the 1500 Freestyle. This event was contested in timed finals format. Due to this, the top 10 seeded swimmers automatically swim their races at night and the rest of the swimmers swim in the morning preliminary session. This did not stop Hugh from swimming fast! Hugh broke the LOSC 1500 FR Open club record by 20.94 seconds. Despite swimming in the morning, Hugh finished 5th overall against some tough distance swimmers!
Current Langley Olympian National Group Swimmer Bailey Herbert made the 200 Individual Medley Final and finished 7th overall with a time of 2:16.11s.
In this third day of the Olympic Trials, here are some of the highlights:
- Rookie 14 yr old Summer McIntosh qualified for her second Olympic Event with a best time of 8:29.48. Summer broke her own 13-14 yrs National Age Group Record by over 5 seconds.
- Pre-selected in the 200 IM, 2016 Olympian and 2017 & 2019 World Championship medalist – - - Sydney Pickrem won the final with a time of 2:09.21.
- Kelsey Wog qualified for her second individual event in the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.21.
- 20-year-old World Jr Medalist Finlay Knox broke his own 200 IM national record with a time of 1:58.07 and qualified for his first Olympics!
- 20-year-old 2019 World Championship Medallist and World Jr Champion Kayla Sanchez qualified for her first Olympics in the 50 Freestyle.
- Multi Olympic Veteran 2007 World Champion and 2012 Bronze Medalist Brent Hayden made a comeback in the 50 Freestyle, winning the event, and qualified for his 4th Olympic Games.
- Josh Liendo made his second individual event in the 50 Freestyle.
