Alberta Long Course Provincials, July 25-28, 2024, Edmonton, Alberta

Four intrepid Waves swimmers went to Long Course Provincials this past weekend, and swam fast, had fun, and finished their season off strong!  I am proud of all of The Waves swimmers this season, not just these four, but this was a great way to wrap things up right before our summer break.

Individual Results:

Kaden Goffinet, 15, 50 Breast, 35.78, 12th; 800 Free, 10:03.23, 16th; 100 Breast, 1:20.34, 10th; 400 Free, 4:54.61, 19th; 200 Breast, 2:51.87, 5th; ; 200 IM, 2:35.95, 13th

Kaden had a great season and finished things off at his first ever long course provincials by making a final in his 200 Breast and getting 5th place, all while taking another second off!  He has had such a great year, improving in his events and making serious headway into provincial competitions!  Well done Kaden, just keep swimming, as you say.

Isabel Miller, 11, 200 Free, 3:01.12, 26th; 50 Fly, 44.01, 40th; 100 Free, 1:22.47, 40th; 50 Breast, 46.50, 24th; 50 Back, 45.94, 46th; 200 Breast, 3:26.37, 11th

Isa had a lot of fun cheering on both her teammates and her new friends from Killarney!  She had more great swims, had fun and probably learned a lot about the fact that she belongs at provincial meets, and she can swim super well in Edmonton!  She should be very proud of herself for her year in the pool, but I know she wants(needs) a break!

William Miller, 16, 100 Back, 1:07.96, 19th; 400 IM 5:15.86, 4th; 200 Back, 2:26.56, 10th; 800 Free, 9:37.94, 6th; 50 Back, 32.59, 33rd; 400 Free, 4:39.02, 20th; 200 IM, 2:28.43, 10th

Will was feeling good after the last three weeks of training.  It showed with some huge time drops in his 400 IM and 800 Free especially, but also his 400 Free and 200 IM.  Will just switched age groups, but still made top 10 in several events, finaling in 200 IM on Sunday night.  Great job Will!  Wear that 400 IM with pride.

Kage Senft, 16, 100 Free, 57.24, 23rd; 50 Back, 31.08, 24th; 400 Free, 4:36.95, 19th; 100 Fly, 1:04.46, 16th; 50 Free, 25.71, 18th

Like Will, Kage switched age groups between EKI and Provincials.  He improved consistently across the board all weekend, and had a ton of fun racing.  He and I spoke about race strategy throughout the weekend and he ended up switching things around a little bit in his 400 Free, where he dropped 3 seconds, and had a great final in his 100 Fly on Sunday as well!  Awesome job Kage, and hope you have a great summer.
