WRAP UP

"Individual commitment to a group effort — that's what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work" — (Vince Lombardi)

Connection in sports highlight teamwork, mutual respect, and the shared human experience of competition.  My grandsons attended almost every swim meet they qualified for and got to know their competition and even became friends with some of them.  In between events they would play cards or games with their teammates or get to know swimmers from other teams.  These connections changed their lives.

According to the CDC:

  • Staying connected to others creates feelings of belonging and being loved, cared for, and valued.
  • Social connections are important to our mental and physical health.
  • Being connected to others helps protect against serious illness and disease.
  • People with stronger social bonds are more likely to live longer, healthier lives.
