2023 Elite Select Camp under Gregg Troy in Florida

James Platt

BLUE BELL, PA – Middle Atlantic Swimming’s highest qualifying-level athletes recently returned from a four-day Elite Select Camp under former U.S. Olympic Coach Gregg Troy. In total, 38 athletes, five coaches and one camp manager made the trip to the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training Center (FAST) in Ocala, Florida.

“This camp presented an incredible opportunity to advance our entire community,” Executive Director Jamie Platt said. “When you multiply 39 swimmers from 18 different clubs, and then add to that six camp staff members from six clubs, this camp had a positive impact on more than just those who made the trip—it has an impact on the entire LSC. FAST’s facilities are amazing and we had an incredible staff led by Coach Troy. The experience was not only beneficial, but will last a lifetime.  This is a direct investment in Middle Atlantic Swimming’s future and continued success.”

Athletes aged 15 through 18 were eligible to be invited, with selection priority starting with 2022 Phillips 66 National Championship qualifiers, followed by 2022 Speedo Junior National and Winter Junior National qualifiers. The goal of the trip was to put Middle Atlantic Swimming’s most experienced athletes and future stars together in the same pool to offer a special educational and motivational opportunity.

“Middle Atlantic Swimming is cutting edge by providing this training camp opportunity based on performance,” Troy said. “Educating and motivating the LSC athletes in leadership will reach throughout the organization’s boundaries. Coaches and athletes will feel the impact of this camp.”

Troy was the head coach of the 2012 U.S. Olympic men’s swim team that competed in London and spent nearly two decades as the head coach at the University of Florida, winning two national team championships and five SEC titles.
