High School State Meet recap

Jim McGinnis

The best high school swimmers in the state converged at GA Tech for the high school state championships from Wednesday - Saturday of last week.  Smaller schools competed Wednesday and Thursday, while large school competition was held Friday and Saturday.  Tidal Wave swimmers found their way onto the podium at both meets, recording some very fast swims along the way!

Reagan Burton was a top three finisher in all four of her races at the 6A meet.  In the 100 fly, Reagan swam to a new best time (56.95), securing 2nd place! Her 200 IM time of 2:06.87 was fast enough for a 3rd place finish!  Additionally, Reagan stood atop the podium as a member of Harrison’s winning 200 Medley and 400 Free relays.   After qualifying first in the prelims, Isaiah Martin dropped another 4 tenths of a second in the 100 breast (57.14) finishing in 2nd place!  Jarrett Watkins swam a strong 100 fly (50.44) on the way to a 3rd place finish!  Finally, swimming in the 4A championship, Kristine Lila raced to a 3rd place finish in the 100 free (53.33)!  Great job swimmers!

Times achieved at the high school state meet are recognized by USA Swimming and therefore eligible for Tidal Wave All-Time Top 10 swims.  The following is a list of newly qualified swims:

Senior: Reagan Burton: 100 fly – 4th (56.95); Kristine Lila: 100 free – 4th (53.33); Jonah Corbitt: 100 free – 9th (47.24); Isaiah Martin:  100 breast – 2nd (57.14).  Congratulations swimmers!
