2025 Long Course Age Group State Championships

The weekend of July 17th-20th, brought our team to Columbus, GA for the Long Course State Championships. Tidal Wave Swimming brought 30 swimmers to the State Championships and an additional 7 swimmers to the “B” Championships. We had 37 swimmers, ranking as the 5th largest team at the meet, despite being only the 14th largest in the state.

Congratulations to all the swimmers for another successful meet! Nikolay Chernev led the team by capturing the High-Point Award for the 13-14 Boys Age Group! He also secured a spot on the Georgia All-Star Zone Team for the second straight year. John Jones and Jaxon Ward also made the Zone team, and will be traveling to Orlando next week.

Nikolay won 7 events and was also a part of the 14-under Boys Champion 400 Medley Relay along with John Jones, Jaxon Ward and Russell Powers!

Many other swimmers placed in the top 10 and top 20 in the State helping Tidal Wave Swimming to a 7th place overall finish (Boys 5th / Girls 13th). We also placed 3rd in our Mid-sized team division!

Nikolay Chernev set a new team record in the 13-14 boys 100 breast – 1:07.06!  That swim also qualified Nikolay for Futures! Additionally, Our swimmers also made some significant improvements on the Tidal Wave All-Time Top 10 list.  Following is a full list of the new top 10 times:

11-12: Hannah Magouyrk: 50 breast – 8th (39.90); Preston Hatcher: 200 back – 3rd (2:37.02), 50 breast – t-7th (38.60), 400 IM – 10th (5:44.35); Kasen Sweet: 50 free – 4th (28.42), 50 fly – 9th (32.86); 13-14: Keaton Gerda: 100 breast – 7th (1:21.09), 200 breast – 3rd (2:50.66); Diana Korytska: 100 breast – 8th (1:21.12), 100 fly – 5th (1:06.13), 400 IM – 6th (5:26.52); Nikolay Chernev: 100 free – 2nd (56.32), 200 free – 4th (2:04.48), 1500 free – 2nd (17:02.22), 100 breast – 1st (1:07.06), 200 fly – 3rd (2:15.57); John Jones: 1500 free – 8th (18:13.08), 200 back – 8th (2:26.90), 100 breast – 6th (1:14.97), 200 breast – 3rd (2:35.55), 400 IM – 6th (5:04.57); Russell Powers: 50 free – 5th (26.27), 100 breast – 10th (1:16.75); Jaxon Ward: 100 fly – 6th (1:01.65). The conditions of the pool were a bit difficult, as it was very warm and humid, which took its toll on the swimmers. Tidal Wave swimmers stayed strong, with some of our best swims coming on the final day, Sunday!
