Class Description

JUMPSTART is a no-cost 2-day learn to swim program for beginner students ages 4 to 14. JUMPSTART teaches students introductory learn to swim skills. The objective of JUMPSTART is to provide students a fast track to swimming and water safetyStudents will learn breath control, water acclimation and body movement. Classes are offered Friday (5:00pm-5:40pm) and Saturday (10:00am-10:40am) May 5th through May 20th. JUMPSTART is organized into 3 sessions (May 5 & 6, May 12 &13, May 19 & 20). Students will be allowed to register for one 2-day session. Class duration is a 40 minute instruction. Class size will be 5 students to 1 instructor.

After completion of the JUMPSTART program students have the opportunity to become year round members of Houston Waves Swim Club. Our membership includes outreach programs, swim clinics, swim lessons for youth and adults, pre-cometitive swim team, competitive swim team, lifeguard training, swim meets, club activities and much more.

2. What are the benefits of swimming?

Scientific studies show swimming improves brain function, mental health, fitness and muscle strength. Swimming provides youth the opportuity to access jobs as lifeguards or swim instructors. Lifeguard and swim instructor jobs lead into careers opportunities includng:

Ultimately, members registerd for competitive swim team have access to college schalorships. Swimming programs are offered at many colleges and universities. Students are more likely to recieve a college schalorship in the sport of swimming due to the small percentage of the collegiate swimming athletes.
