Information for New Members

PORPA opertions are based out of Priest River and have a summer season starting in June (late) and finishing in October (early).  This is due to water flow and weather.  We row out of the Priest River Park (Mudhole) and have a lot of different options.  If the water is flowing too fast, we sometimes start rowing at other bodies of water (Spirit Lake, Diamond Lake, Sullivan Lake) where we need to take our boats. We have 6 singles, three doubles a four, a quad and two eights (click here to check out "Our Fleet").  Any boat can be taken out at by any member at any time as long as you are certified to row it and have the right amount of people for boats with more than one person.

We offer introduction to rowing courses to get people into the sport and then if there is interest they can join the club.  These introduction to rowing which are also an introduction to PORPA are free of  charge.  They consist of one session to review Health, Safety, Rowing Operations and Basic Technique on land on a rowing machine.  Depending on progress, there are two more sessions on water on our learning shells.

We have about 30 members of which half are very active and the rest are either recreational rowers or social members (we actually have quite a number of social gatherings throughout the year).  We have members age 14 to 80 so you can see that there is something for everybody. The majority of our members learned to row with us, just a few of our members rowed before, either in school or as masters before coming to PORPA.

We have members from around the Inland Northwest, Bonners Ferry, Kalispell MT, Sandpoint, Sagle, Priest River, Newport, Coeur D’Alene, Diamond Lake, Spokane and we get visitors from as far south as Pullman and Moscow.
