Team Suits

We recommend that everyone has a team suit. The team suits meet USA Swimming guidelines for competition (Men suits can not be above the navel or below the knee. Women suits can not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, or below the knee). The team suits are a very durable material that will last a long time. Swimmers are encouraged to wear a team suit at competitions. Swimmers should not need to wear their team suit to practice. Team suits and caps help to make each swimmer identifiable on a crowded pool deck at a meet to coaches and parents.

Swimmers may desire to wear a "racing" suit or tech suit, but should do so when prompted by a coach or during their final competition. Racing/Tech suits are very expensive, have a significantly shorter life than the team suit, and using a racing/tech suit for every race negates the mental benefit of putting one on at your final competition. Please keep in mind that as of September 1st, 2020 there will be a ban instituted by USA Swimming that prohibits the wearing of tech suits by swimmers ages 12 and younger at any competition.

Equipment

Depending on the group your swimmers is in, they will use a variety of equipment at practice. Swimmers are encouraged to have an equipment bag with their own equipment for practice to ensure they have the proper equipment for each practice. You can see recommendations for equipment below

Kick Board - We typically have enough kickboards for every swimmer provided by the YMCA, however swimmers may desire to have their own kick board. Swimmers should make sure their kick board is labeled with their first and last name on it.

Fins - We use fins to help develop leg strength in swimmers and also assist with drills to provide more repititions for younger swimmers. It is recommended that swimmers have their own set of fins for practice. We can not gaurantee there will be enough of any size for swimmers to get their own at practice. It also takes away from pratice time and burdens coaches when they have to assist swimmers with finding fins in the fin bin during practice. If swimmers do not have their own fins, they should arrive early enough to practice to make sure they have enough time to find fins prior to practice starting.

Paddles - Able to isolate the arms and develop 'feel' for the water and power. All swimmers in the Senior Prep and Senior groups should have their own set of paddles.

Snorkels - Snorkels will be used to continue to develop proper body position while kicking and swimming. Snorkels can be used by swimmers to maintin head position during drills and longer swims. Snorkels are not recommended for swimmers 12 and under.

Apparel

SPY Swimmers will be outfitted at the beginning of each season with a team shirt and 2 caps with their last name on it. The caps should be worn at all competitions, if your swimmer chooses to wear a cap.

Additional apparel is available through the Team Store. We have tried to make apparel avaiable in as many sizes as possible. Items include shirts, tanks, shorts, coats, parkas, hats, gloves, warm up pants and jackets. This apparel can be found in the Arena Apparel and Spiritwear sections of the Team Store.

Team Fittings

All American Swim will do a team fiting at the beginning of every season. This will allow swimmers to try on suits and make sure they know their appropriate size. You can also purchase equipment and practice suits during the fitting.
