Ignition is FRST's developmental group for swimmers 10 and younger. In this group, swimmers continue their journey of learning to swim, and learning about the sport of swimming. Swimmers in Ignition spend much of their time learning some of the most essential skills and techniques to be strong, safe, and fast swimmer!
This group places a heavy emphasis on education, of both athletes and first-time swim parents as they begin to fully embark on the journey of competitive swimming!
Coach Quin leads our Ignition swimmers through their journey, helping with everything from the rules and techniques to all four competitive strokes, to how to find the heat and lane of your race at a meet, to how to handle your first disqualification, and beyond! Although this is not typically the first group that new young swimmers will join, it is certainly one where each swimmer will experience many firsts for themselves!
Whether first time trying a new stroke, first time winning a heat, or even first time achieving a championship qualifying time, this group has a lot of exciting experiences in store for its swimmers!
In the past few seasons, this group has seen many of its members and their families transition from being new and unfamiliar with the sport of swimming, to some of FRST's most integral members!

Meets
We encourage our Ignition athletes to dive into competition head first at this level! Experience is the greatest teacher! And often, swimmers are able to learn many times more about the sport and about themselves at meets than they are at practice!
However, to help our swimmers and families make the most appropriate selection of competitions based on size, competitive level, travel distance, etc. we provide clear recommendations and requirements to make things as simple as possible!
These recommendations are set out before each season as we designate each meet or team event as Required, Expected, Encouraged, or Optional. This allows our coaching staff to set common expectations that help our club operate effectively, help our athletes benefit from each other's engagement and support, and help our coaches educate new families on the more intricate details of the world of competitive swimming!
For more information on meets and competitions, please check out the Meet Policy section of our team handbook!
