Olympic Trials Recap
The Olympic Trials was a success for IISD. We had 3 representatives, all of whom made it to the finals of their events.
We’d like to honor a 4th place finish by Joshua Hedburg in the men's 10m, and a 6th place finish by Amy Magaña and an 8th place finish by Daryn in the women's 10m.
Little known fact: these 3 IISD representatives - the married 30 year old and a couple Juniors - placed 7th overall as a team at the Olympic Trials against all the heavily funded top college programs in the USA.
We owe an extra congratulations to Amy Magaña, our resident Olympian, for an excellent career having won about 10 national championships and having successfully represented our people since the 6th grade. We are so proud!
As the Olympic Trials is now the qualification event for the newly prestigious Junior Pan Am Games, we have the following updates to share:
Joshua Hedberg: #1 ranked Junior diver as per the USA Diving Trials Men's 10m Platform Finals, and has qualified to represent Team USA to the Junior Pan American Games, 2021.
Daryn Wright: #1 ranked Junior diver (as she was the only Junior diver in the finals) in the
USA Diving Trials Women's 10m Platform Finals, and has qualified to represent Team USA to the Junior Pan American Games, 2021.
Congratulations to
these two phenomenal National Champion Junior divers who participated in this Olympic Trials, and who have proven, yet again, to be the present moment best two Junior divers in the great United States of America. That's worth recognizing and well earned by each of them.
