WELCOME TO THE HOME OF THE CROWN POINT SWIM CLUB!

CPSC WEEKLY UPDATE – October 20, 2025

John Krick

Pool Heater is Broken…..It’s that time of year again!!

Sorry for the sarcasm…..so our pool heater is broken and parts are on order.  We do not know when the repairs will be done as of right now.  I have secured practice space for us at Hobart HS Aquatic Center (2211 East Tenth Street, Hobart) for Tuesday & Thursday.  All practice groups will be at their regularly schedule practice times with the exception of Platinum only swimming until 8:15 and Elite swimming there only on Thursday from 3:30-5:30.

We will not have swim practice on Wednesday for the age group swimmers as we will still have our scheduled team pictures that day.  Elite will still have a short practice after school at CP.

Valpo Kick Off to Fall Invitational:

There is no practice on Friday due to the Valpo Swim Club Invitational starting.

Friday PM Session (Sessions 1 - 9 & Over age groups):  Begin at 4:00 pm (CPSC swimmers need to be on deck by 3:45 pm).  Competition is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm.

Saturday & Sunday AM Sessions (Sessions 2 & 5 - 11 & Over age groups):  Begin at 7:00 am (CPSC swimmers need to be on deck by 6:45 am)  Competition is scheduled to start at 8:00 am

Saturday & Sunday AFTERNOON Sessions (Sessions 3 & 6 - 10 & Under age groups):   Begin not before 12:00 noon (CPSC swimmers need to be on deck by 11:45 am)  Competition is scheduled to start not before 1:00 pm.

Please check to see if you have signed your swimmer up through your online account as swimmers will not be added at the meet if you did not.  There will be a check-in for swimmers in the hallway and swimmers are responsible for highlighting their names prior to coming on deck.  Swimmers that do not highlight their names will NOT be seeded in the meet and will not swim.

INFORMATION ABOUT PRINTED CALENDAR:

The calendar that was sent out in PDF format and is posted on the bulletin in the hall of the HS has all the days that we will NOT have practices on as well as the meets we are attending.  The general practices times are listed there on the left hand side.  I have also listed general school breaks or holidays on there as well.  CPSC will always have practices during school breaks with the exception of a few major holidays.  The holidays we do not have practice are noted on the calendar.

As a reminder, ALL groups will have Monday through Friday practices in the PM.  Gold, Platinum, & Elite will have Saturday AM practices on those days we don’t have meet scheduled.  Elite will also have AM practices Monday-Wednesday & Friday’s.  There will never be practices on a Sunday.  During Christmas Break, Gold, Platinum, & Elite will also have AM practices Monday through Friday unless noted on the calendar.

All of this can be subscribed to your mobile devices calendar by following the subsequent information……

ONLINE CALENDAR:

The practice schedules have been posted for the Bronze, Silver, Gold, & Platinum groups on the General calendar.  To get that calendar to sync to your mobile device, log into the website from your phone, go to the Calendar page, select the General Calander, select the correct Roster, click on the Subscribe button and copy the link to your devices subscribed calendars.  You can do the same for the Team Events calendar to get the meets downloaded to your calendar as well.

CPSC TEAM PICTURES – Wednesday, October 22nd

Legends Photography will be coming to CPSC on Wednesday, October 22nd for our team pictures.  Once again, all pictures will be done individually, and a team photo will be produced from those.  Swimmers will be taking pictures in their suits and but will NOT have practices that night since the heater is broken.  Elite group individuals will start at 3:00 pm sharp and I would like all to be in this picture.  Purchase of photos is optional and a link to purchase will be sent out sooner to the event.  Bronze group pictures will be taken at 5:00, Silver group pictures at 5:30, and Gold & Platinum will be taken at roughly 5:45.  Any family with multiple swimmers can have their swimmers’ pictures taken together, if they wish, at the earlier time slot of the two.

Reminders for Parents

  • Once Bronze & Silver swimmers are done with practices, they either need to be picked up or sit up in the stands until they are.  We have had a few roaming around and on pool deck after they are done with practices.
  • If Gold & Platinum swimmers are being dropped off earlier than 15 minutes before their practices start, they need to sit up in the stands until the coaches call them down.  We have had WAY TOO MANY roaming around the school or going outside where they are unsupervised and we cannot have that.  Please talk with your swimmers.
  • No parents are allowed on the pool deck during practices and meets (unless volunteering at the meets) as this would invalidate our club insurance through USA Swimming’s provider.  There is no exception on this.  If you have any questions on this, please contact Head Coach John Krick.
  • No parents are allowed in the locker rooms as this is a Safe Sport violation.  Again, no exception on this.  We are a Safe Sport Certified club and cannot risk losing this certification.  If your swimmer seems to be taking too long (meaning longer than 15-20 minutes), please ask a coach or another swimmer if they can check on them.  If you have any questions on this policy, please contact Tiffany Lyles, CPSC Safe Sport Chair.
  • Please let the coaches do the coaching.  We celebrate your role as a parent and realize the work that you do every day in that.  Please allow the coaches to be the ones that the swimmers get their swimming feedback and information from at the connection is critical to their success.  Even if you swam, many things technically have changed, and the coaches are the best avenue for the swimmers to learn this information from.
  • If you need to speak to a coach, please email them to schedule a time as they will be more than willing to speak to you AFTER or BEFORE practice.  During practice is not the time for coaches to have those discussions as it takes their attention away from the swimmers.  If it is an emergency, then, please do not come on deck, come to the edge of the stands and ask a coach if they can meet as soon as possible.
  • Attendance matters.  We will always understand conflicts that keep our swimmers from attending practices, however, the more they can be there, the quicker progress can come.  Being there is the first step to becoming an elite level swimmer and while there are many after that, if we don’t get to see your swimmers more than twice a week, it becomes harder to teach the technicalities of swimming for them to pick up on and make habits of.
  • If you every have any questions about the “wet side” of the program, please contact Head Coach John Krick at either 219-838-3294 (DAWG) or at [email protected].  If you every have any questions about the “dry side” of the program, please contact one of our board members whose email can be found on the “COACHES” page of the website down at the bottom of the page.
  • Always stay positive with your swimmers, they put more pressure on themselves they you’ll ever realize.  And trust me, adding pressure to a boiling pot never ends well.
