DCST Walks over Trails of Algonquin
The Kishwaukee YMCA / DeKalb County Swim Team (DCST) got back on the winning path on Thursday night with a 459 – 232 over the visiting Trails of Algonquin Swim Team. After two poor showings in their previous two meets, DCST showed some improvement with 88 lifetime best swims out of a total of 213 swims for a 41% improvement rate. The DCST Coaching Staff is expecting a 60% improvement rate for the conference championship meet next Saturday.
After each meet, the coaching staff picks two swimmers, one girl and one boy, as the “Big Dogs" of the meet. Big Dogs are not only selected on their performance in the meet, but the coaches also take into consideration the swimmer’s practice attendance, work ethic, team spirit and sportsmanship. For this meet, Emily Keiner, age 9, and Garrett Sims, age 7, were selected as Big Dogs of the meet.
DCST had 23 swimmers who had at least 2 lifetime best performances in their individual events. These swimmers were as follows: Ty Ament, Michael Carlson, Benjamin Changnon, Alyssa Ferrigan, Madisyn Grever, Daniel Hein, Kei Ishimaru, Jensen Keck, Emily Keiner, Meagan Maish, Caitlynn Moon, Cole Moon, Collin Moon, Lucy Prais-Lewis, Dylan Rasmussen, Bradley Ruetten, Ryan Schultz, Garret Sims, Bridget Smith, Patrik Smith, Libby Swedberg, Andrew Tatum, and Chloe Wester.
On Friday, July 10 – Sunday, July 12, DCST will be competing in Quincy at the Sheridan USS Meet, and on Saturday, July 18 DCST will host the NCISC “A” Conference Championships.
