DCST Continues Torrid Pace at National Championships (Day 2 Results)
DCST came out on fire on day 2 of the National Championship Meet. DCST had 16 lifetime best swims out of a total of 18 swims on Tuesday. This brings the meet total after two days to 20 best times out of 23 swims. DCST also set 7 team records for a two day total of 11. In team scoring, DCST is currently ranked 5
th in the combined scoring, 6
th in the men’s scoring, and 16
th in the women’s scoring.
In the Men’s 200 Medley Relay, DCST’s team of Grant Alef, Michael Gordon, David Gordon and Chad Thompson dropped 6.2 seconds from their seed time to take 11
th place. Alef’s lead off 50 backstroke split in prelims was good for a new DCST team record. All four swimmers earned National All-American honors for the relay, and all four swimmers also earned National All-American honors in an individual event earlier in the day.
Michael Gordon and Chad Thompson highlighted an outstanding day for DCST’s individual medley swimmers with 6 and 7 second time drops respectively. Both swimmers broke the previous DCST record in this event while earning National All – American honors for finishing 14
th (Michael) and 15
th (Chad). Kei Ishimaru also had a personal best in his 200 IM. On the female side, Emily Waller set a new team record with her 3.4 second time drop and 23
rd place finish. Katie Hallenbeck had a very impressive 5 second time drop in this event.
David Gordon was DCST’s highest placing finisher on the day with a 6
th place finish in the 400 meter freestyle event. His 6.5 second time drop earned him All-American status along with a new DCST team record. Also earning All-American status and a new team record in the women’s 400 meter freestyle was Emily Launer with her 10
th place finish. She lowered her person best in this event by almost 5 full seconds.
Grant Alef earned his individual All-American status in the 100 backstroke with his team record time of 59.99 and 10
th place finish. Chad Thompson and Tara Gidaszewski also had personal best times in the 100 backstroke. DCST’s sprint freestylers went 3 for 3 in personal best times as Emily Waller (1 second time improvement), Casey Jepsen (.5 second time improvement) and Cory Page (.15 second time improvement) all had impressive showings. Kei Ishimaru was not to be out done with his 3 second time drop in his 50 breaststroke.
DCST’s female 200 medley relay (Emily Launer, Valerie Jones, Katie Hallenbeck and Emily Waller) concluded DCST awesome list of best times with their 2.7 second time drop.
