DCST Keeps Making Big Waves at National Championships (Day 3 Results)
DCST’s kept riding its wave of success on day 3 of the National Championships with 10 lifetime best times in 12 events raising their meet total to 30 for 35. As a team, DCST’s broke 5 more team records for a meet total of 16 while remaining extremely high in the team scoring (women – 14
th, men – 8
th, combined scoring – 7
th).
On Wednesday, DCST’s 400 freestyle relays lead the way. The team of Casey Jepsen, Kate Taylor, Emily Launer and Emily Waller dropped 6 seconds in the preliminary session and another 2 second in finals to finish 10
th. The men’s relay of Grant Alef, Chad Thompson, David Gordon and Michael Gordon also went faster in finals after dropping over 9 seconds in the preliminary session earning them 12
th place honors. All 8 swimmers were named National All-Americans.
The 400 freestyle relay was only the beginning of David “Gib” Gordon’s busy day. In his individual events, he set two new DCST team records in the 800 freestyle and 200 freestyle events while earning 8
th and 16
th place finishes respectively. For the meet, Gib earned National All-American honors in all four of his individual events. Grant Alef also broke the previous DCST record in the 800 freestyle with his 11
th place, National All-American finish.
Emily Waller was DCST’s female star of the day with her National All-American performance in the 200 freestyle. She dropped over 2 seconds in the preliminary session, and then rose to the occasion in the final session with an additional 1.8 second time drop and 10
th place finish. Both times were new DCST team records. Also in the 200 freestyle, Casey Jepsen had a very strong swim by beating her seed time by over 4 seconds.
Michael Gordon finished off DCST’s record performances with his 2.5 second time drop in the 200 breaststroke. In the 100 butterfly, Katie Hallenbeck (1.0 second time improvement) and Kei Ishimaru (0.7 second time improvement) were impressive. The National Championship Meet continues for two more days.
