DCST National Results (Day 4)
The 800 Freestyle Relay and the 200 Backstroke were extremely productive events for DCST on Day 4 of the YMCA National Championships. DCST’s women’s 800 freestyle relay team of Grace Waller, Valerie Jones, Casey Jepsen and Emily Launer swam 6.25 seconds under their seed time to finish 5
th. While the men’s team of Michael Gordon, Sam Seneczko, Chad Thompson and Grant Alef dropped almost 9 full seconds to finish in 6
th place. All 8 swimmers earned National All-American honors. This was the first time Sam earned National All-American honors.
In the Men’s 200 Backstroke, Grant Alef took 2
nd place while Chad Thompson was 11
th. Both swimmers earn National All-American honors, broke the previous DCST team record and had significant time improvements (Grant – 3.3 seconds; Chad – 0.8 seconds). In the Women’s 200 Backstroke, DCST had a trio of swims in the final session (Emily Launer - 6
th place, Tara Gidaszewski – 15
th place, Casey Jepsen – 22
nd place). Emily and Tara both earned National All-American honors. This was the first time for Tara to achieve this status.
In DCST’s other two final swims on Thursday, Valerie Jones and Kei Ishimaru both set new DCST team records. In the 400 IM, Valerie Jones dropped 6.3 seconds in finals after dropping 2.5 seconds in prelims. She finished in 18
th place. Kei dropped 1.6 seconds on the day while finishing in 18
th place.
For the day, DCST’s had 9 lifetime best times out of 15 individual swims. This brings the week’s total to 26 career best times out of 38 swims. DCST’s other time improvements on the day: Casey Jepsen – 100 Freestyle (0.01 seconds), Cory Page - 100 Freestyle (1 second), Tara Gidaszewski - 200 Backstroke (1.2 seconds), Casey Jepsen - 200 Backstroke (1.3 seconds), Sharron Isola – 50 Butterfly (0.05 seconds).
