DCST National Results (Day 5)
Day 5 concluded the YMCA National Championship with DCST achieving its highest finish ever in both the men’s (6
th place) and combined team scoring (tied for 9
th place) divisions. The DCST women finished the meet in 15
th place. On the day, DCST had 7 individual career best times out of 9 individual swims which brought the meet total to 33 career best times out of a total of 47 individual swims. Moreover, all four of DCST’s relays dropped significant time on Friday. All ten DCST relay swims for the meet were well under their seed times. One item which DCST likes to stress in its training is swimming faster in finals. At this meet, DCST had an impressive 16 time improvements for the second swim of the day out of a total of 21 second swims.
DCST’s men 400 medley relay of Grant Alef, Michael Gordon, Kei Ishimaru and Chad Thompson earned DCST’s highest placing for relay at the meet with a 3
rd place finish. This relay went almost 8 seconds under their seed time. In the women’s 400 medley relay, Emily Launer, Valerie Jones, Sharron Isola and Casey Jepsen dropped over 5 seconds on the day to place 12
th. Emily set a new DCST team record in the 100 Backstroke with her lead off split from the preliminary session. All 8 relay swimmers achieved National All-American honors for their efforts. This was the first time Sharron was named an All-American.
In the individual events, Grant was named a National All-American for the second time on the day with his 11
th place finish in the 50 backstroke. His time was 0.2 seconds under his seed time. Michael Gordon also had a nice day in the 100 Breaststroke. He lowered his previous DCST team record by 1.2 seconds. He finished in 18
th place.
DCST’s other time improvements on the day were: Women’s 200 Free Relay consisting of Sharron Isola, Valerie Jones, Casey Jepsen, Emily Launer (4.6 seconds), Men’s 200 Free Relay consisting of Chad Thompson, Cory Page, Grant Alef, Michael Gordon (3.2 seconds), Sharron Isola – 200 Butterfly (0.8 seconds), Kei Ishimaru – 200 Butterfly (1.6 seconds), Chad Thompson – 50 Backstroke (0.2 seconds), Marc Dubrick – 50 Backstroke (1.4 seconds), Valerie Jones – 100 Breaststroke (3.0 seconds).
