DCST Wins Early Bird Invite

        DCST won the Early Bird Invite hosted by the YMCA of Rock River Valley (Rockford).  DCST finished ahead of second place Rock River Valley by 166.5 points (385.5 – 219).  As a team, DCST swam just okay with 40 career best times out of a total of 98 swims for a 41% improvement rate. DCST had 4 swims which achieved the District Qualifying and 1 swim which achieved the Area Qualifying time for the first time.

            A total of 13 swimmers had a great meet with at least two career best times. These swimmers were:  Kristina Biundo, Nathan Braun, Palmer Bubb, Preston Bubb, Justin Buck, Ben Cazel, Erin Fidler, Sabrina Groce, Grace Johnson, Colette LeBlanc, Riley Lohse, Joe Luetkehans and Amanda Underwood.

            After each meet, the coaching staff picks two swimmers, one girl and one boy, as the “Big Dogs" of the meet. Big Dogs are not only selected on their performance in the meet, but the coaches also take into consideration the swimmer’s practice attendance, work ethic, team spirit and sportsmanship. For this meet, Amanda Underwood, age 11, and Palmer Bubb, age 17, were selected as Big Dogs of the meet.

          DCST will be in action again next Saturday with a triangular meet against Rock River Valley (Rockford) and Freeport.
