DCST National Championship Results – Day 4 Hein Named All-American for 5th Time
At the YMCA National Championships on Day 5, Daniel Hein led the way for DCST by being named a National All-American two more times. With one day to go in the meet, he has been named a National All-American 5 times, so far!
Individually, Hein set a new DCST Team Record and earned All-American honors with his 4th place finish in the 200 meter Backstroke. He went a 2:07.45 which was 2.3 second under his previous personal best. In his relay event, he joined Ryan Schultz, Dylan Powers and Holden Mackey for a 4.6 second time improvement and a 13th place finish. Hein also set his 5th team record on the week with his lead-off 50 meter backstroke split. By earning National All-American honors in the relay, Mackey became the 38th swimmer in DCST history to earn this honor.
The Men’s 100 meter Breaststroke was a great event for DCST as Jacob Bjork and Schultz both went under the old DCST Team Record with 1.7 and 1.5 seconds time improvements. DCST’s 5th new team record, on the day, was set by Athena Ye with her lead-off 50 meter Backstroke split in the Women’s 200 Medley Relay. Theresa Alef, Sarah Hein and Caitlynn Moon joined Ye to lower their seed team by 2.1 seconds.
Other time drops on the day were: the Men’s 800 Freestyle Relay team of Hein, Austin Bockman, Bjork and Dylan Powers (17.3 seconds); the Women’s 800 Freestyle Relay team of Ye, Sarah Hein, Bailey Flemming and Moon (1.6 seconds); and Sarah Hein’s 200 Backstroke (2.2 seconds).
DCST had three personal best times in time trials. Alef was 1.5 second under her personal best in the 100 meter Breaststroke, and her time was 1.1 seconds under the National Qualifying Time. In the 100 meter Freestyle, Ashley Stark and Michael Carlson went best times by 0.3 and 1.3 seconds, respectively.
After four days, DCST has 29 best times out of 43 total swims for a good 67% improvement rate. The team has also set 14 new team records, so far.
