Frequently Asked Questions

Q: USFS, LTS, ISI, LCFSC - what do all these acronyms mean?

A: USFS - United States Figure Skating is the national governing body for the sport of figure skating in the United States.

LTS USA - Learn to Skate USA is the instructional program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating.

LTS KC - Learn to Skate KC is the local LTS USA program that operates at Line Creek Ice Arena

ISI - Ice Sports Industry is a trade organization and recreational ice skating program with its own testing and competition structure.

LCFSC - the Line Creek Figure Skating Club is a USFS and ISI affiliated club based in Kansas City, Missouri at the Line Creek Ice Arena.

Q: Why should I join Line Creek FSC?

A: There are many reasons to join the club! A Line Creek FSC home club membership confers full membership in US Figure Skating which is required for skaters who will be taking official USFS tests or competing above the Pre-Preliminary or Adult Pre-Bronze levels at USFS competitions. The optional ISI membership allows our members to participate in ISI testing and competitions as well. Many Line Creek FSC members and associates join the club in order to skate with the KC Momentum Synchronized Skating Team. Line Creek FSC also organizes educational, social, and performance opportunities for our members.

Q: I'm joining the KC Momentum Synchro Team - what type of membership do I need?

A: Line Creek synchro skaters need a home club membership. This can be any type  of home club membership (family, intro, additional skater, professional, collegiate), so long as the skater meets the stated qualifications - junior club membership is not sufficient. Members of Aspire and Adult ISI Only lines will also need to add on an ISI membership.

KC Momentum Skaters who are home club members of Heartland FSC do not need a Line Creek membership. Heartland members on Aspire level lines do still need an ISI membership.

KC Momentum Skaters who are full USFS home club members of clubs other than Line Creek FSC and Heartland FSC need an Associate Membership with either Line Creek FSC or Heartland FSC.  Members of Aspire and Adult ISI Only lines will also need to add on an ISI membership.

Q: I have a LTS USA Membership (or had one in the past) - Can I join as an Introductory Member?

A: Yes! Skaters who have or had LTS USA memberships qualify for Introductory Family (if under 18) or Introductory Individual (if 18+) Home Club membership so long as they have never had a full USFS membership through any club or as an individual member of U.S. Figure Skating.

Q: I have a Line Creek Junior Membership (or had one in the past) - Can I join as an Introductory Member?

A: Yes! Skaters who have or had Line Creek Junior memberships qualify for Introductory membership so long as they have never had a full USFS membership through any club or as an individual member of U.S. Figure Skating.

Q: I'm joining Line Creek FSC for the first time and used to be a member of a different USFS member club - Can I join as an Introductory Member?

A: No. To qualify for Introductory membership, a skater must never have had a full USFS membership through any club or as an individual member of U.S. Figure Skating.

Q: My skater is under 18. Why is a parent also required to join the club?

A: As a member club of U.S. Figure Skating and as a registered non-profit with the State of Missouri, Line Creek FSC needs adult members to serve on our Board of Directors, chair our committees, vote in our elections, chaperone our teams, and volunteer at our competitions, test sessions and other events. Although it has not always been enforced in the past, the requirement that a parent must join whenever the skater is under 18 has actually been part of our bylaws for many years. As our club's membership and activities have grown it has become imperative to get more parents involved. This requirement gives parents a voice in the club, is encouraged by U.S. Figure Skating, and is in line with the practices of other area skating clubs.

Q: My skater is under 18 and is joining LCFSC as a junior member or associate member. Is a parent also required to join the club?

A: No. Since associate and junior members do not have full USFS membership through Line Creek FSC and do not have voting rights, a parent is not required to join.

Q: My child and I both skate! What kind of membership do we need?

A: Our Family Home Club Membership includes full USFS membership and club benefits for a skater under 18 and one parent. Or, if your child has never had a full USFS membership before, you qualify for the Family Introductory Home Club Membership which includes the same benefits for a discounted price.

Q: How do I register for a family membership?

Login or create an account on our EntryEeze website and use the ‘Manage My Family’ tab to add yourself and all the skating family members you need memberships for. Then go to the Apply/Renew tab and use the dropdown menu to select 1st Skater (under 18) or, if they qualify, Intro 1st Skater (under 18) for your child.  For the parent, choose Parent if you are not a skater, Addl Skater (18 and older) if you are an adult skater, or Professional if you are a coach. A discount for the full amount of the parent’s chosen membership will be applied at check out. You may also add club memberships for additional family members living in the same household using the Addl Skater memberships.

Q: How do I know if I need to add ISI membership?

A: Skaters who wish to register ISI tests and/or compete in ISI competitions need to add ISI membership. In addition, skaters who are joining KC Momentum Aspire or Adult ISI Only Synchro lines need to add ISI membership. Parent members do not need to add ISI membership for themselves unless they are also skaters who plan to participate in ISI testing or competition.

Q: I'm in Learn to Skate classes and not ready to test or compete at a high level yet - is there a membership for me?

A: Yes! Skaters with current Learn to Skate USA membership are able to join Line Creek FSC as Junior members. Junior members are able to participate in club ice shows, social events, and educational opportunities at the member rate. Junior membership does not confer full USFS membership, so junior members may not participate in USFS test sessions or represent Line Creek FSC in USFS competition. Junior members who add ISI membership may register ISI tests and represent Line Creek FSC at ISI competitions. Junior members are not able to join the KC Momentum Synchronized Skating Team.

Q: I'm joining Line Creek FSC as a Home Club Member - do I still need a Learn to Skate USA membership?

A: Maybe! Any skater who takes classes through a Learn to Skate USA program is required to have a Learn to Skate USA membership. LTS memberships can be renewed at learntoskateusa.com. Line Creek FSC does not run a LTS program and we do not process LTS memberships.
