Coaches and Directors
Amy Albiero, a member of the Oakland University Athletic Hall of
Fame after a stellar collegiate swimming career at Oakland
University, is co-owner and co-head coach of Cardinal Aquatics.
One of the most outstanding female swimmers in the history of the
Oakland University program, Albiero is among the elite nationwide
in her sport. While at OU, she earned 27 all-American honors, was a
12-time national champion, the 1992 NCAA Division II Swimmer of the
Year and was an NCAA record holder in three events.
Albiero was a member of four NCAA Championship teams during her
four-year career at Oakland -- 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994. Individually
she was a five-time champion, winning three titles in the 100-yard
backstroke and one each in the 200 backstroke and 200 individual
medley.
The Bellville, Ohio native set the NCAA Division II record in the
100-yard backstroke (55.49),which still stands to this day, and was
a part of the record setting 200-yard medley and freestyle relays.
Albiero also holds the school records in the 100-yard backstroke
(55.49), the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.26) and the 200 individual
medley (2:05.99). She was also a part of the school record setting
200 and 400-yard medley relays and 200-yard freestyle relay.
A psychology (exercise science) major, Albiero graduated from
Oakland University in 1995 with a bachelors degree in Arts and
Sciences. Albiero is married to University of Louisville's head
swimming and diving coach Arthur Albiero. They have three children:
Estefan, Nicolas and Gabriela.
Arthur Albiero, current Head Coach of the University of Louisville, is also one of our Volunteer Coaches. He is married to current Cardinal Aquatics Head Coach Amy Albiero and has had three children grow up through the program: Estefan, Nicolas, and Gabriela.
Coach Arthur's success at the collegiate level has recently named him one of the Top 100 coaches in the past 100 years by the CSCAA.
Coach Marcelo has been coaching at Cardinal Aquatics for over 2 years, working primarily with our Pre Senior group, and now moving up to work with our Senior/High Performance group. Prior to working with Cardinal Aquatics, he spent a year training at Azura Florida Aquatics, while coaching and managing their summer camp.
Before retiring from the sport in 2021, Coach Marcelo represented his home country El Salvador in two Olympic Games (Rio 2016 - Tokyo 2021). He participated in multiple Swimming World Championships since 2011, finishing 13th place at the 2017 Fina World Championships in Budapest and 11th place at the 2018 Fina World Championships in Hangzhou.
Originally from San Salvador (the capital city of El Salvador), Coach Marcelo came to Louisville for the first time in 2015 to be part of the University of Louisville Swim Team. Throughout his collegiate career, he has been a three-time NCAA All-American Honors in the 1650y freestyle and B finalist in the 500 freestyle at the NCAA Swimming Championships. As of now, Coach Marcelo still holds multiple school records in the 500, 100, and 1650 yards freestyle, along with the 400 and 1500 meters freestyle.

Coach Will returns to Cardinal Aquatics after a brief hiatus in the corporate world. Will works primarily with our Senior/National group as well as Age Group Elite. Will is Cardinal Aquatics' dryland coordinator, working with SwimStrong Dryland. A graduate of the University of Louisville, Will swam as an age grouper for Wildcat Aquatics (now Kentucky Aquatics) as well as Lexington Dolphins.
Coach Will's best stroke is breaststroke and enjoys seeing swimmers set big goals and watching them crush it after months of hard work. His favorite advice is "Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world." - David McCullough Jr

Maddie is in her third year coaching our development group and assistanting with our Senior & High Performance groups. She is a graduate of UofL and currently completing her MBA. Maddie was a 5 year team member for the UofL swim & dive team where she was a team captain.

We are happy to welcom Coby back to the CARDS, as Coby grew up swimming at CA as an age grouper. Coby joins the staff with experience coaching many swimmers in Louisville through his year of Summer Club coaching. In addition to coaching, Coby serves in Management at the Louisville Boat Club.

We are happy to welcome back Connor, as Connor grew up swimming for the CARDS! In addition to swimming, Connor also is a decorated triathlete, representing Team USA at the junior national level. Connor is a certified stroke & turn official and a starter, so don't be surprised if you see him in the white shirt and khakis, lol. Lastly, when Connor is not on the pool deck, look up! There's a good chance you will see him in the sky, as he is a licensed private plane pilot and instructor.

Dalton is in his third year coaching the Age Group Elite group! Dalton is a current UofL swimmer with a speciality in Butterfly, Backstroke, and Sprint Freestyle and is currently one of the team captains. Dalton will be completing a 5th year at UofL for the 2024-2025 season while getting a masters degree.

Ryan is in his first year with the CARDS and is doing a great job coaching our development and age group elite groups. Ryan is a current swimmer at UofL specializing in the backstroke events.
