Sharks finish 14th in Senior State Championships 

7 Elmwood Sharks senior athletes and families traveled to Sulphur, LA, Feb 9-12, for the semi-annual LA Senior State Championships. The team was led by veterans Lexie Rodrigue (18), competing in her 7th senior state meet, and Chrisitan Lang (16) making his second appearance. The rest of the boys squad included Grant Castillon, Robby Eutsler, Nathan Flynn, Bryan Santos, and Trevin Terrance, all competing in Senior State for the first time as 15 year olds.  

Individual meet highlights 

Grant Castillon led the team in points scored (41) earning 7th place in the 1000 free (9:58.90), 15th in the 200 backstroke (2:01.63), and 19th in the 200 butterfly (1:59.69).  

Robby Eutsler won the C final of the 100 backstroke (17th, 54.90) and placed 21st in the 200 back (2:04.13). Robby earned best times in all 6 events he entered – 100 fly, 50 & 100 free, 200 IM in addition to the backstrokes. 

Nathan Flynn earned best times in the 100 backstroke (1:03.59) and 200 backstroke (2:17.29), and swam his best morning time in the 50 free (25.28).  

Christian Lang earned a best time in the 200 breast (2:33.79) and equaled his best time in the 100 breast (1:09.64). 

Lexie Rodrigue finished 16th in the 100 butterfly (1:02.49) and 19th in the 200 butterfly (2:22.84) as her only two scoring swims. The 100 fly was her fastest to date in the last year, and her 200 fly was her second fastest ever. 

Bryan Santos swam a full lineup of 6 individuals and earned best times in both the 100 breast (1:04.19) and 200 breaststroke (2:25.91), earning 32nd in the 100 breast as his highest finish. 

Trevin Terrance earned a new sectional qualifying time in the 100 butterfly (52.55), and earned bonus qualifying times in the 50 free (22.15) and 100 free (48.39). Trevin’s highest finish came in the 100 back, earning a 16th place finish out of the B final.

Next up -  

Grant Castillon, and maybe a few others, will compete at the senior sectional meet in College Station, Tx, March 2-5. This is a regional level senior meet with clubs from Texas & Louisiana, and acts as a pre-cursor to more national level meets such as futures, junior nationals, and senior nationals. This meet is offered twice/year and usually held in Texas.
