Parents Meeting Recap

NRG Swimmers & Parents,
 
To recap last nights parents meeting with some expansion on details discussed:
 
·         Welcome to the 2010-11 Short Course Season
o   September 7 th through the end of March
o   Long Course Season will start the beginning of April
§ Short break (approximately 1 week) for age group swimmers
§ No break for Atomic Program Swimmers
·         Coaching Staff
o   Head Coach and Team Manager- Raymond Keown
o   Head Age Group Coach- Katie Bateman
o   Developmental Squad Coach- Andrei Luchuk
o   Prep Squad Coach- Erin Bateman
o   Assistant Coach- George Gill
§ New to staff this year
§ Head Coach of Saint Catherine’s CYSL Swim Team
§ Will work with all levels
·         1 st Month- September 7 th through October 1 st
o   Evaluations will be made for placement of swimmers for the remainder of the season
o   Practices times will be different during this time
§ All squads start at 5pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
§ Normally Scheduled practices will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays
·         Please check squad schedules for details
o   Morning practices for all Atomic Program Swimmers will start Monday September 13 th
§ Includes Monday, Wednesday, Friday morning practices at B&R, 5:30 to 6:30am
·         Optional for all Juniors and Seniors, Elite swimmers are expected to attend
§ Includes Saturday practices at Pennypack
·         Senior and Elite 6-9am
·         Junior 6-8am
o   Younger swimmers will train for one hour each day during this time
o   More experienced age group and Atomic Swimmers will train until normal practice concussion times
o   Swimmers will receive their final placement during the last week of September
·         Remainder of the Season- October 2 nd on
o   Normal Squad Practice Schedules will be followed

o   There will be an increase in training intensity at this time
o   Meets begin
·         Meets
o   Not required at any level but strongly encouraged.
§ Competition benefits the swimmer, and allows them to see improvements
o   Meet policy
§ Registration for swim meets will be done through the web-site
§ If a swimmer is not sign-up for a meet by the stated deadline, they will not swim at that meet
§ Swimmers and Parents must follow our code of conduct
o   Meet Schedule
§ 1 st two meets are on the web-site
·         Duel Meet- High School Format
o   Between NRG, Wahoos, and Storm
o   For Developmental and Atomic Swimmers
o   October 13 th 7pm in place of practice at Wahoos pool
·         EMAC Sprint Meet
o   October 16 th
o   For 15 & Over swimmers only
o   Events that they never get to swim during the year
§ Remaining meets will be posted as the meet information becomes available
§ Different age groups will attend different meets
·         We will support more meets this way
·         We will not have back to back meets with the same events
o   Typically there will be a meet once every 3 weeks for each swimmer
§ Holiday Travel Meet
·         There will be a travel meet, as we have done in the past
o   11 & Over swimmers travel on bus, room, eat, and swim together
o   10 & Under swimmers must travel, room, and eat with parents
·         We are looking at several different meets for this year and will select the best one available
§ Grand Prix and National level Meets
·         We will attend a couple of these this year
·         They will be team travel
·         These meets look really good to college coaches
§ Regional
·         We will continue to hold our Cup Races
o   Swimmers compete against the Wahoos to help their team win the trophy
·         Practice policy
o   There are no required practices
o   Swimmers are expected to attend practices because they want to
o   Age Group levels
§ We have more availability than other teams, allowing for more flexibility
§ Swimmers attending at least 60% of practices can be successful
§ Swimmers are welcome to attend all practices available, but are not expected to
o   Atomic Program
§ Swimmers are expected to maintain at least 85% practice attendance
§ Swimmers are expected to attend Saturday morning practice
§ Morning practices have a big impact on a swimmers training and performance gains
§ Swimmers are expected to be the role models of the team
·         Parents Support Group
o   Positions will be appointed by the head coach
o   Responsibilities
§ To conduct at least one social activity outside practice each month
§ To conduct at least three fundraisers each year
§ To conduct any NRG operated swim meets
§ To host an NRG Holiday Alumni Party each year
§ To coordinate apparel and equipment group purchases
§ To coordinate and promote all volunteer positions needed to support the growth of NRG Swimming in MA
o   Goals
§ To promote Team Unity and Social interaction
§ To promote both Parent and Alumni interaction, volunteerism, and support
§ To promote NRG Swimming to the community and support its growth
§ To raise money each year to allow NRG to better operate its programs
·         Expand reach
·         Compensate and expand staff
·         Lower costs
·         Purchase equipment
·         Aid travel costs for Team travel Meets
·         Develop a plan to purchase or build our own facility
o   $50.00 of your registration fee goes directly to adding in the operation of Parent Support Group activities
·         Next Parents Meeting will be October 4 th at 7pm
o   Introduce selected members of the Parents Support Group
o   Discuss upcoming events and schedule
·         Other business
o   Missing registration
§ We currently only have 22 registrations filed, though we clearly have many more swimmers
·         Swimmers must be registered to swim not later than September 17 th
§ Swimmers must be registered to attend swim meets and team activities
§ We can not hold your position on NRG without registration
o   Incorrect payment
§ Several registrations had mistakes in payment amounts
·         These will be corrected and show on our October statement
·         Please correct these mistakes at that time, so that future billing will be correct
o   Non-payment of bills from last season
§ Several families are outstanding in bills from the summer
·         Payment must be made no later than September 17 th
o   Payments after September 17 th will be charged a late fee
·         Payment must be made before swimmers will be allowed to participate in team activities
·         Payments not received by October 1 st will result in swimmers suspension from the team
·         Follow up emails will be issued the end of business next week
