What is needed to host an open water meet?

  • Technical Plan (water quality, technical meeting, pre-race meeting)
  • Race Plan (expected air and water temperature, type of body of water, course marking)
  • Feeding Stations (if applicable)
  • Meet Safety Plan (medical personnel, first responders and lifeguards, emergency transportation, on-site medical care, medical facility location)
  • Water craft
  • Athlete Accountability (method of numbering, method of electronic identification, caps for age groups or genders, method of accounting for competitors before, during and after race)
  • Warm-up/warm-down plan
  • Communications (meet officials, radio, cell, megaphone, other)
  • Severe Weather Plan
