Meet Head Coach — Shannon, Dancel Blue Crabs
Shannon began coaching in 2017 as the assistant coach and interim head coach at York College of Pennsylvania. She joined the YCM Blue Crabs in 2019, where she has consistently coached swimmers to Maryland States and YMCA Nationals, including the team’s first national finalist and first points scored at the meet.
Alongside her role with YCM, Shannon is a sport psychology consultant with her own private practice, working with amateur, professional, and Olympic athletes around the world. Her background in sport psychology shapes her coaching philosophy, emphasizing confidence, mental resilience, and a love of the sport.
One of her proudest coaching accomplishments is seeing so many former swimmers stay involved in the sport as collegiate athletes, masters swimmers, and coaches. In recognition of her work in coaching and sport psychology, Shannon was selected to coach at USA Swimming's Zone Select Camp in 2022.
A lifelong swimmer herself, Shannon grew up competing for the York YMCA, earning multiple district titles, state finals berths, and qualifying for YMCA Nationals. She now competes in Masters Swimming, most recently racing at the 2025 Masters World Championships in Singapore. Her favorite stroke is butterfly, and her favorite event is the 800 freestyle.
