August 2023

Summer 2023!
  1. Wow, it’s hard to believe we only have one more meet and just over a week left in our long course season! Great job from all our swimmers this summer, so many amazing swims and fast times!

  2. Congratulations to Emily Roden who placed 1st in the 200 Butterfly at the NSCA meet! it is the highest finish ever for a Sturgeon at that meet and we’re so proud of her. We can’t wait to see what the future holds as she heads off to swim at The University of Missouri this fall.

  3. Good luck to all our graduated Seniors who are heading off to college as well: Emma, Ryan, Jacob, Sierra, Nick, and Carter!

  4. Enjoy your last couple weeks of summer with your family. Our summer break is 8/12-9/4. Watch for the September newsletter with a tentative meet schedule for the fall. We’ll see you back after Labor Day on 9/5 for the first day of short course season!

  5. Below are a few links to some pictures. Thank you to Mrs. White for continuing to collect and share these for all the parents!

Recipe of the Month

High Protein Pancakes

  • 1 cup cottage cheese (220 grams) – full-fat is better
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup rolled oats (100 grams)
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Blend ingredients to make the batter. Add all ingredients to a blender in the order listed and blend until smooth, no more than 30 seconds. Make sure not to over-blend. Let sit for 5 minutes. It should be pretty thick but not chunky.
  • Cook. Heat up a large nonstick skillet or griddle over low to medium heat. Once hot, add cooking fat and let it warm up. Using a 1/4 cup as a scoop, form into equal size pancakes. I get about 8 (you may need to cook in batches depending on the size of your pan). Cook for 3-4 minutes until small bubbles start to form on the outside and the sides start to fluff up (there won't be a lot of bubbles though). Flip and cook for another 2-4 minutes until golden brown.
  • Enjoy! Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

When I was 4 years old I started taking lessons at Novi Athletic Club. I didn’t like swimming in Junior 2 but when I moved up to Junior 3 I started enjoying swimming because I thought practice was easier which encouraged me to do more practices.

I never really enjoyed going to meets when I was in a Junior 3 because I couldn’t get state cuts which would have given me medals. When I went up to the State Team I got lots of state cuts and got some medals in most of the events I swam in the championship.

Now I really enjoy swimming and I want to improve because I want to get better results in swimming.
