Swimathon- Save the date!
Hello PAC Swim Families!!
This year’s SWIM-A-THON is scheduled for March 7 th and is for all PAC swimmers and
not just for children who are swimming in the current session. If your child has swam at
all in the last year, they are invited to participate in this fundraiser. The event will be
held at the Pathfinder pool and generally runs from 8AM-5PM.
Whether your swimmer has participated in past years or this will be your first Swim-A-
Thon experience, here is a glimpse of what to expect.
The Purpose: Fun and Fundraising
Requirement
Each family has a $100 fundraising requirement as part of being on the team. If you
choose, you can simply write a check or your swimmer can earn it through this
fundraiser. Obviously, it could be a combination of both as well – whatever works for
your family. It’s always great to have the kids show up and earn the money through the
Swim-A-Thon, plus it is a fun team bonding experience! The can collect bottles, do odd
jobs, or anything else to meet their goal.
Pledge Sheet
Attached to this email is a pledge sheet. There will also be some available at the pool
next week. Ask your family and friends – even if someone pledges a dollar, that’s a
dollar closer to your goal, and a dollar that helps the team…and you. In the past, a
good approach to motivate your swimmer is to have a family member come to the pool
and offer a few extra dollars while they are swimming. This gets them excited to be
swimming and lets them show off their skills a bit.
T-Shirts
A T-shirt will be provided for each child who meets their fundraising responsibilities. We
will be ordering the shirts ahead of time so it is important to RSVP and get pledges in
early. A separate message will follow next week with further details.
What to Expect
The day is divided into blocks of swims. Each block of swims is divided into smaller
groups. Each smaller group will swim for 20-30 minutes. There will be snacks and
pizza lunch provided, but be sure to eat a good breakfast, bring extra snacks and plan
for some down time too! Additional details to come.
Volunteers
As with any event, we need volunteers in order for the day to run smoothly and make
the event a success. We will need people to help set up, clean up, count laps, marshal
the hallway, donate food, man the basket auction, etc. There will be a sign-up genius
that comes out for this so watch for that. You don’t have to do the same job all day. We
generally divide the responsibilities into various 1-hour increments.
Silent Auction
The past 3 years we did raffle baskets. Each family was responsible for providing one. It
doesn’t need to be elaborate – it certainly can be but doesn’t have to be. Gift cards are
always a great idea to include in a basket. If you’re feeling creative, make a little basket
with a theme – picnic lunch, fun games, self-care, whatever you think people may enjoy.
This has helped supplement the fundraising and greatly supports the PAC and all it
does throughout the year. If you have a business that would like to donate something
for this, that would be great! So please start thinking about what you might be able to
do.
Thank you for all the support!
