WESTERN WI CONFERENCE COMPETITION

Big Rivers - Dunn St. Croix - Middle Border

- 2021 -

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

Date: Saturday, March 13, 2021

Location: River Falls High School

818 Cemetery Rd.

River Falls, WI 54022

COVID MITIGATION PLANS:

  • There will likely be fans allowed into the competition - parents only, 2 per dancer. Blocks will spread out team sizes to minimize the number of dancers and spectators in the building. Final plans for this will be sent out to all teams attending.
    • A free livestream link will also be available to all teams.
  • No concessions
  • Block schedule:
    • Teams will have a specific, regimented time they are allowed to enter the building, warm up time, and scheduled exit time.
    • At the most, four schools would be allowed in the building at one time (this is the same as WACPC will be allowing).  Each team will have their own locker room where they will remain until they perform. When done, they would go back to locker room and change for their next performance. When all schools in the block have done their complete repertoire of dances, they would go home. Locker rooms would be cleaned between blocks.
  • Everyone must be masked at all times - dancers (on the floor and off), coaches, spectators, judges & volunteers.
  • All WACPC COVID-19 Mitigation rules will be followed.
  • Awards ceremony will be on the live stream. Awards will be mailed to teams afterward.
  • COVID Cancellation Policy- No checks will be cashed until the competition happens. If we are shut down or have to cancel a date, we will do our best to reschedule the event to a future date. In that instance the checks would be kept and would apply to the later date. If that date doesn't work for a team and they have to drop out, it would then be returned to the team. Any pre-ordered apparel is non-refundable and would be delivered or mailed to teams (or saved and handed out to the team at the rescheduled date). Any individual teams who are not able to attend last minute due to COVID-19 would be given the opportunity to compete in the virtual category. If that is not possible, or we have to cancel the whole event due to COVID-19, no checks would be cashed and they would all be sent back to the teams.

*If your team has any additional precautions you need us to follow, please email us a [email protected] and we will see if we can make it happen!

Judging

Final scores will be decided by a panel of judges - 3 per solo/ensemble (choreography, execution and technique), and 4 or 5 per team routine (depending on how many judges we can secure), and one tech judge. The same panel of judges will score all of the routines in each conference. Ties will not be broken. Solos will be judged by the WACPC All-State score sheets, a similar score sheet will be used for ensembles. Team routines will be judged by the WACPC score sheets. Judges' decisions are final. Coaches will be emailed a scan of all score sheets as well as overall tallies at the end of the day after awards.

Virtual Competition

  • All teams should submit videos of their routines in case they are put on quarantinne last minute.
  • Videos must follow all WACPC video rules and must be submitted by NOON on March 7th.
  • While most coaches' preference would be for their team to get to compete in person, the default assumption would be that teams will compete in-person unless they have to compete virtually. Teams are able to switch to competing virtually last minute if they are quarantined, Teams can opt to compete virtually if they are not allowed to travel per their school rules, or if they have too many dancers gone due to quarantine, or gone due to spring break - in this instance they should register as competing virtually if they know they will not be in attendance in-person. Teams will still be competing against their normal conference if competing virtually.
  • Virtual entries will be judged during cleaning breaks the day of the event. Viewed once, on a large screen, following WACPC virtual judging best practices, will be scored on paper scoresheets and tabulated. Scoresheets will be scanned in and emailed to all coaches the night of, the same as in-person routines.

Solos and Ensembles

Each team is eligible to enter solo and/or ensemble entries. The number of entries that each team is allowed is determined by the number of participants on the team. The number of entries is 25% of the total team members (rounded to the nearest whole number), or a minimum of four entries. For example, if you are a team of 25 dancers, 25% of 25 is 6.25, which should be rounded down to 6. Only Varsity level dancers are eligible for the solo and ensemble competition. Ensembles can have between two and four dancers.

Soloist are eligible to receive First Team All Conference honors. Ensembles are eligible to receive Second Team All Conference honors. These teams are decided at a coaches meeting after all Solos and Ensembles have performed. When all the scores are tabulated, they are listed in order of highest to lowest. The coaches in each Conference meet and decide where the natural break in scores occurs. Those above the break receive the honor.

Soloists are competing for first, second, and third place awards in their respective Conferences. Ensembles will also compete for first, second, and third place ensemble awards. Ties will not be broken.
