The Devilfish Aquatics offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is our goal to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.
Evaluations for the Long Course season were held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie on Saturday or Sunday, April 21st or 22nd, and at the Union Avenue Pool in New Windsor on Monday, April 23rd, 2012. Swimmers were evaluated by the coaches for placement in the proper Group. Test Set Standards were applied for the Junior, Pre-Senior, and Senior Groups. Evaluations for the SC season 2012/13 will be held in August.
The DA will be swimming at three different practice-facilities during the span of the LC season.

| Mini Devilfish* (Ages 5 – 10 ) Fees: $300 Long-Course only Days: Poughkeepsie Group: Tues, Thurs, Sat at Vassar New Windsor Group: Mon, Wed, Fri at Union Ave Coaches: Poughkeepsie: Alisa Pacheco, Chris Mance New Windsor: Lauren Lubarsky, Chris Mance Primary emphasis for Mini Devilfish is placed on stroke development. The swimmer must be able to swim 1 lap of freestyle and 1 lap of backstroke to be placed in this group. The basic fundamentals of all of the competitive strokes will be introduced. Also important in a swimmer’s development will be the social interaction with other swimmers and the ability to manage a competitive workout environment. Swimmers entering this group must be comfortable in deep water, and possess the listening skills necessary to take instruction within a group setting. Introduction to swim meets will also be important to the development of each swimmer. Practice 3 days a week is encouraged.
Junior Devilfish* (Ages 8 – 13) Fees: $400 Long Course only Days: Poughkeepsie Group: Tues, Thurs, Sat at Vassar, Mon optional at Union Ave New Windsor Group: Mon, Wed, Fri at Union Ave, Sat optional at Vassar Coaches: Marc Rizzo, Chris Mance Mastery of all four of the competitive swimming strokes and a solid understanding of the individual medley is the focus of the Junior Team. Emphasis is heavily placed on good technique while mastering the essentials of competitive swimming, such as understanding how to use the pace clock, and proper lane etiquette. The introduction of aerobic endurance work is also done at this level. Practice 3 days a week is expected, a maximum of 4 days a week is allowed.
Senior Silver Devilfish* (Ages 12 - 16) Fees: $450 Long Course only Days: Tues, Thurs, Sat, at Vassar College; Mon, Wed, Fri at Union Ave. (Choice of 4-5 days) Coaches: Ethan Fergus, Chris Mance Although stroke technique and skill development are still vital to the improvement of a swimmer, there will be a much stronger emphasis put on aerobic conditioning. Mastery of the pace clock and proper lane etiquette are necessary to build an aerobic foundation. Swimmers at this level are expected to understand how the sport is structured and how to set goals according to and within that structure. High attendance levels are required to assure advancement and to enable the swimmer to keep up with the group in practices. Practice is required 4 days a week, 5 days a week is recommended.
Senior Gold Devilfish* (Ages 14 - 18) Fees: $1,300 Year-round $450 for 2012 LC Trial Season! Days: Tues, Thurs, Sat at Vassar College; Mon, Wed, Fri at Union Ave (5-6 days) Coach: Chris Mance The Senior Team is comprised of swimmers who have chosen Devilfish Aquatics as their number one athletic priority. The senior program is geared toward producing national level swimmers and preparing swimmers to graduate to the collegiate program of their choice. Swimmers in the senior group will be expected to swim year round. Training in this group takes a great commitment. Regular practice and meet attendance is mandatory; a minimum of 5 days a week practice attendance is expected. Swimmers choosing to swim high school must attend a minimum of 2 Devilfish Aquatics practices each week during the High School season. *Placement in group level is determined by the Head Coach.
SWIM LESSONS Vassar College Swimming and Diving, in conjunction with Devilfish Aquatics, will be running swim lessons during the 2011-2012 academic year. VC swim and dive will administrate and conduct lessons on Tuesday and Thursday nights in the fall (Sept-Oct) and late spring (April-May). Devilfish Aquatics swim instructors will teach VC lessons as needed. Devilfish Aquatics will administrate and conduct lessons on Sundays in the fall and the late spring. VC swim and dive will teach Devilfish lessons as needed. With both groups working together, a more consistent swim lesson schedule will be offered throughout the academic year. Please see below for the Devilfish Aquatics lesson dates and times: Devilfish Aquatics Learn To Swim Program (Ages 4 thru Adult) Whether you would like your children to learn to swim for water safety reasons, or if your child is interested in taking up swimming as a year-round sport, our experienced and dedicated coaches will ensure that your budding athletes progress through the levels. The Lessons will be held at Vassar College. Levels I and II will have a 45-minute lesson, while levels III and IV will have a one-hour lesson. Fees: $115 for seven lessons (Session II: six lessons for $100), plus a one time, annual USA Swimming Membership fee of $58. Please check back for updated information on Session-dates.
