Mount Swimmers Add Four School Records to Season Accolades Following Conclusion of the ECAC Invitational
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 3rd, 2023) – Mount St. Mary's swimmers finished the ECAC Invitational claiming a total of eight school records in individual and team events. The men's team finished in fifth place with a gross team score of 775 points, while the women placed seventh with a 689-point total.
The women's team opened their day with two top 15 finishes in the 200-Yard Backstroke as Lauren Wetzel finished 11th (2:05.99), while Hanna Aggen placed 13th (2:06.90). Meghan Speicher followed with an eighth-place nod in the 100-Freestyle finishing with a time of 52.56 seconds, a second shy of a school record. Christina Lazari, a swimmer who has been the backbone of the team throughout this tournament, finished third in the 200-Breaststroke with a time of 2:18.67, smashing Alyssa Felos' record of 2:26.47 established in 2017. A few events later the team comprised of Christina Lazari, Madison Murphy, Meghan Speicher, and Maddy Samuels, earned a third-place nod in the 400-Free Relay with a time of 3:30.19, while claiming the long-lived school record established in 2012.
The men opened their day with a sixth-place nod in the 200-Back as Jason Fitch finished with a time of 1:49.73. Austin Toland followed with a dominant second place finish in the 100-Free in a speedy 44.98 seconds, claiming a school record set by Peter Jones in 2022. Aidan Grady followed with a second-place finish in the 200-Breast with a time of 2:01.30, missing his personal best and a school record by decimals of a second. Liam Rooney finished sixth in the 200-Fly with a finals time of 1:53.73. The men closed their day with a fifth-place nod in the 400-Free Relay as competitors Nicholas Santorelli, Antonio Gurri, Griffin Distler, and Austin Toland swam the event in 3:05.04, claiming the fourth school record of the day set back in 2021.
