BECOME AN OFFICIAL!!
One of our greatest volunteer needs has always been OFFICIATING. This is one of the greatest ways you can help our team and our sport. If you are interested in becoming an official, I am providing links below to read a little about the process. JCKW will happily pay for the required non-athlete USA Swimming registration to help you start the process as long as you agree to work our home meets. Officials are allowed to eat for free at meets at the hospitality table, and while officiating is a volunteer job, since USA-S is a non-profit organization Officials can write off the cost of miles and hotel stays even when your child is competing in the meet.
Trainees must shadow for six meet sessions before becoming a full Stroke & Turn Official, and must be S&T for one year before training to become a starter, which is an important step to help our team host meets.
There will be a clinic at the Springfield Fall Classic this weekend between sessions on Saturday. The meet referee, Joe Harmon, has also offered to come to our pool to train anyone interested if we can get enough people together during an evening practice or a weekend.
There will also be a clinic on Saturday of the RAC Fall Invitational in Springdale. See the information at this link.
To see more details on certification click here. (Please keep in mind that you would be becoming an Arkansas Official, rather than Missouri Valley, but many of the links are the same.) To take a look at USA Swimming's mini-rulebook click here.
Please let me know if you are interested in helping the team out with this very valuable job!
