A special note from the NWAA Head Coach Steve Duwel:
Dear Swim Families
As you know, Moore, Oklahoma was hit by a devastating tornado this past Monday and resulted in tragic loss of life and left thousands of families without homes and basic resources. Again, as with the Joplin tornado just two years ago, this tragic event touched our swimming world.
Chesapeake Swim Club in located in Oklahoma City, OK and many swimmers live in the Moore area on the south side of Oklahoma City. We received word today through the coach that all swimmers and family members have been accounted for, and thankfully there were no serious injuries. A single family from Chesapeake Swim Club did lose their home and all personal belonging and will be starting over.
At this time, the family’s greatest need is for basic resources, but because of logistics and an inability to secure belongings and donations, we are asking for donations of gift cards that the family can use for things of greatest need and when the need arises. As you can imagine, there is a “fog of war” that exists, and needs change as time passes. The family has scarcely been able to assess the loss, let alone be able to articulate what they need. Gift cards from any retailers, e.g. Wal-mart, Target, Kohl’s, would be helpful. If your team members would like to donate a gift card, please bring it to the swim meet this weekend. Gift cards will be collected at the heat sheet sales area as you come into the pool area or can be turned in at the Clerk of Course.
NWAA and area swim teams were able to make a huge impact on the needs of the families from the Jasper County Killer Whales that suffered in the Joplin tornado. Please help us extend the same level of support to our friends at Chesapeake Swim Club.
Sincerely,
Steve
