Marlins Place 6th at Summer Sizzler in Derby
Hello Swim Families!
The Manhattan Marlins crushed it this weekend at the Summer Sizzler, hosted by the Newton Nitros. With just 9 swimmers, the Marlins reeled in a whopping 374 points—what’s more, all of those points were scored by just 6 boys.
Highlights:
- Ishaan Vinod scored an incredible 146 individual points.
- Ishaan qualified for Districts in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, and 50 breaststroke. Furthermore, Ishaan came within 0.60 of a 14 & Under Champs bonus time in the 50 backstroke.
- Ishaan won the 50 backstroke, placed 2nd in the 100 backstroke, 3rd in the 50 breaststroke, and 4th in the 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 200 IM.
- Cameron Pfannenstiel scored a mega 127 points.
- Cameron qualified for Districts in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, and 50 butterfly. What’s more, Cameron came within 0.70 of a 14 & Under Champs cut in the 50 free, and within 0.81 seconds of the bonus cut in the 50 fly.
- Cameron won the 50 breaststroke and placed 2nd in the 50 backstroke. Cameron also placed 3rd in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and 4th in the 100 breaststroke.
- Jack Dunn might have taken on a bigger schedule than any other swimmer in the meet, swimming the 800 free, 200 free, 200 back, 200 fly, 200 breast, 100 free, 100 fly, 100 back, 50 fly, 50 back, and 50 free, for a total of 2050 meters raced, not including warmups. Overall, Jack scored 41 points for the Marlins, recording personal best times in the 50 free, 800 free, 50 back, 50 fly, 100 fly, and 200 fly.
- Max Dunn, who also took on a massive schedule, pulled in 57 points, recording a 4th-place finish in the 100 backstroke and recording lifetime bests in the 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 50 back, and 100 breast.
- Philip Wolfe posted personal bests in the 50 free, 100 breast, and 50 fly.
- Gwyneth Wolfe nabbed new lifetime bests in the 50 back and 100 free.
- Vivi Wolfe posted a new lifetime best in the 50 fly.
- Maddi Lowrey was our only 8 & Under in the competition, racing the 50 back and 100 free. Maddi just missed her best time in the 50 back and higher than all 8 & Under girls in the 100 free, and 2nd among all 8 & Under girls in the 50 back, despite the meet only scoring athletes for 3 age groups: 12 & Under, 13-14, and 15 & Over/Open.
Unfortunately, the meet did not award a high-point award for 12 & Under swimmers; however, if it did, Ishaan would have placed 1st and Cameron 2nd among 12 & Under boys. Among all 12 & Under swimmers, Ishaan and Cameron would have placed 2nd and 4th in high point standings. In terms of overall points scored in the meet, Cameron finished in 8th place in overall points, while Ishaan finished 3rd overall.
The Marlins will be back in action on home turf, defending City Park Pool at the Little Apple Invitational this weekend.
Coach Reid issues the following challenge to all Platinum swimmers: score just half as many points as Ishaan or Cameron did last weekend.
Here’s to fast swimming!
