Week 2 Drill of the Week: 2-Kick-1-Pull Breaststroke
Week 2: Drill of the Week: 2-Kick-1-Pull Breaststroke
Hello Swim Families!
This week’s drill of the week is one of Coach Reid’s personal favorites… 2-kick-1-pull breaststroke!
The benefits of 2-kick-1-pull are simple yet profound.
On one hand, it is a relatively simple drill to execute, even for beginners. Every stroke cycle is followed by an additional kick—by cycle we mean a pull with the arms, a breath, and a kick to full completion (legs closing and feet coming back together).
Swimmers are to stay near the surface of the water and keep their hips as high as possible. In essence, the drill encourages high body position and a long body line. It also allows swimmers to work on their breaststroke kick, one of the trickiest aspects of competitive swimming. Then again, some people “just have it,” and if you or your children are one of those individuals, lucky you!
Breaststroke days, which are commonly Wednesdays, will offer many opportunities to perfect this drill, which is one of the Marlins foundational drills.
See you at the pool!
