MANHATTAN MARLINS

Summer 2024: Week 6 Technical & Conditioning Focus

Reid Carlson

Week 6: July 8 – July 12

Technical Focus: Holding Water, Recovery, Rotation, Breath Timing, Starts & Turns

Conditioning Focus: Full Body Power

Hello Swim Families!

This week, the Marlins gear our technical focuses towards holding water, rotation, and the old stalwarts, breath timing and starts and turns.

The Platinum and Blue groups will shift their conditioning focus to full body power. What this means is, swimming with the entire body, putting everything together, and coordinating power across the body, making each stroke powerful and contributing to the feeling of “swimming downhill.”

Rotational power and the implementation of the core and the hips—and shoulders, for short sprints—is the foundation of full body power.

A really big kick is important, too! Hearken back to week 4 for the heightened conditioning emphases on kicking.

Our next competition is this Thursday in McPherson. Then, on Sunday, we will travel to Topeka for the Sunflower State Games, a short course yards (25 yard) competition where swimmers that finish in the top-3 in their events win really big, cool medals! Coach Reid will be at both competitions, with Coach Myles joining us as well Sunday in Topeka... bring your A game, kids, because your coaches are going to be racing at the Sunflower Games alongside you!

See you at the pool!
