Fall 2024 Week 2 Technical and Conditioning Focus
Fall 2024 Week 2, September 9 – September 14
Technical Focus: Body Position
Conditioning Focus: General Aerobic
Macrocycle: Fall 2024; Mesocycle: General Preparation; Microcycle: Body Position
Hello Swim Families!
Welcome to week 2!
This week’s technical focus will again home in on body position, while the condition focus remains “general aerobic.”
We will focus on keeping our hips high in the water and improving our kick. High elbow position and early vertical forearm (EVF) will continue to be emphasized this week as well.
Early vertical forearm (EVF) refers to a swimmer’s ability to keep their elbow high in the water therefore utilizing their forearm and entire arm as an oar and pulling with the muscles of their back as opposed to the muscles of their arm which are much smaller.
Yikes… that was a run-on sentence!
Having an efficient EVF will influence distance per stroke (DPS, another important acronym), breath timing, and many other aspects of swimming.
The Platinum group will delve into a little bit of resistance training by incorporating Drag Sox into a couple of sprint kick sets this week, though their primary conditioning focus will remain on building their aerobic base.
Similarly, Blue will continue to build their aerobic base while also building some sprint tolerance with short bursts of speed and lots of rest.
See you at the pool!
